Obituary published on Legacy.com by John M. Ireland & Son Funeral Home and Chapel on Dec. 13, 2025.
Stanley Gene Sims was born on September 30, 1960, and passed from this life on December 11, 2025.
Stan was raised on a farm in Kiowa County, Oklahoma where he developed a strong work ethic and a love for animals, especially his cats. As the middle child, he spent much of his youth involved in FFA, showing cattle and taking on leadership roles as he captained both his basketball and football teams in high school. As a young man, he founded Sims Brothers Custom Harvesting with his brother Guy, cutting wheat from the Dakotas all the way to San Angelo, Texas. He later went on to graduate from Oklahoma State University with a degree in agricultural economics, becoming a proud and loyal OSU fan and lifelong donor; many of his fondest memories were attending OSU football and basketball games with his wife and kids. He also enjoyed cheering on the OKC Thunder.
Stan was well-liked and respected by his peers, known for setting ambitious goals and having the drive and determination to achieve them. One of his proudest accomplishments was earning his private pilot's license at the age of 20.
Professionally, Stan began his career as a loan officer for Farm Credit, eventually transitioning to Bank of America in Oklahoma City in 1997, where he served as Senior Vice President in government lending. His work contributed to many major projects, including providing financing for the Oklahoma State Capitol dome and Boone Pickens Stadium. His strong work ethic shaped not only his career but also the values he instilled in his children.
Stan carried his farming roots with him throughout his life, tending a lush vegetable garden and always maintaining a beautiful lawn.
Above all, Stan will be remembered for his steadfast loyalty and his unwavering dedication to his passions and the people he loved. His legacy lives on in the values he passed down and the lives he touched along the way.
Stanley is survived by his beloved wife of 41 years, Julie; his son Tyler Sims; his son and daughter-in-law Austin and Kayla Sims; daughter Jessica Sims; grandchildren Cope, Bo, June, Oliver, and Arlo; brothers Van Sims and Guy Sims and wife Deana; mother Bonnie Sims; father Billy Sims, as well as numerous other loving family and friends.
He is preceded in death by his grandfather G.G. Sims; his Granny Fern; his Granny Lorene; and close family friend Johnney VanderPol.
