Obituary published on Legacy.com by Lakeside Funeral Home - Woodstock on Nov. 11, 2024.
Stanley Voss, 81, passed away on the morning of November 9, 2024, surrounded by loving family in
Woodstock, Georgia, after a brave fight against kidney disease and cancer.
Stan was born in New York City on April 11, 1943, the son of Frederick and Beatrice (nee Arne) Voss. After moving to Milwaukee, Wisconsin, as a young teen, he attended Divine Peace Lutheran Church, where he was confirmed, and graduated from Pulaski High School. On November 21, 1964, Stan was united in marriage to the love of his life, Karen (nee Willmert).
Stan worked as a draftsman for 30 years at Wisconsin Electric. Earlier in his career, he detailed plans for the city of Milwaukee. Stan spent 15 years with Karen in Arizona after retiring in 2004.
Always ahead of his time with the use of new technology, Stan was the first to bring home a TI pocket calculator for his daughter in the 1970s, wrote code on an early home computer with his boys, and bought a giant VCR before anybody knew about a VCR. He enjoyed photography, observing the stars, and tracking every NASA mission. He also loved books and documentaries about history and archeology. Stan was so curious about this world, but above all, he was a man of faith who immersed himself in the words of the Bible.
Stan long will be remembered for what matters in life. He coordinated educational vacations to places like Gettysburg and Cahokia, but family fun also included countless trips to amusement parks and sports events. He was a strong role model for his children and grandchildren. A devoted husband, Stan cared around the clock for Karen, his wife of 56 years, throughout her lengthy battle with Alzheimer's until her passing in 2021.
Stan is survived by his children, Eric (Christy Abing) Voss, Denise (Charlie) Williams and Jonas Voss; grandchildren, Mia, Mitchell, Grace and Evan; and many in-laws, cousins, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends, including his good buddy Ron.
The family will forever be grateful for the love and support of our Church Family at Beautiful Savior Lutheran Church, along with the guidance and compassion of Pastor Guse and family; Pastor Seifert; and Vicar Balge, the grandson of the late Pastor Richard Balge who shepherded Stan and Karen early in their life together at Divine Peace. Additional thanks go to Bristol Hospice, Right-At-Home home care, Fresenius Kidney Care Woodstock, and many doctors and nurses for their effort and support.
A visitation to pay respects will be held for one hour on Friday, November 15th at 6:00 p.m. at Lakeside Funeral Home in
Woodstock, Georgia. A Lutheran funeral service officiated by Pastor Guse will follow at 7:00 p.m. in the Lakeside chapel.
