Stephen L. Bodnar, 83, of Fremont, OH passed away on October 27, 2025 at University of Toledo Medical Center surrounded by his family. He was born June 6, 1942 in Oberlin, OH the son of Stephen W. and Mary T. (Horvath) Bodnar. Steve was a 1960 graduate of Clyde High School.
Steve married Sandra Babcock on October 20, 1962 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church and she preceded him in death on April 16, 2022. Steve worked at Whirlpool for several years prior to joining his father and brother in the family business, Richman Brothers. He and his wife Sandy also owned and operated Village Toggery Formal Wear and New Beginnings Bridal in downtown Fremont for 25 years until they retired in 2013. They also started Ohio Wedding Services which hosted many bridal shows over the years.
Steve was an active member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church. He was an avid sports fan, especially Ohio State and New York Yankees. He also enjoyed bowling, fishing and playing softball, sponsoring the Village Toggery team in many high-level tournaments. He also enjoyed camping and traveling to Canada for many years for fishing and family vacations. Steve and Sandy enjoyed many friendships over the years at the Elks, Moose and Eagles and volunteering at various nursing homes. Steve mostly loved to spend time with his family and cats.
Steve is survived by children, Laurie (Adam) Crockett, Clyde, OH; Brenda (John) Whisler, Fremont, OH and Stephanie (Fred) Pizzedaz; brother, Jerry Bodnar, Clyde, OH; grandchildren, Danielle (Ken) Luc, Tod (Ash) Whisler, Cody Crockett, Lindsay (Eric) Gray, Abby (Corey) Manns, Nick and Angelo; great-grandchildren, Kaitlyn (Tyler) Binder, Evan and Lauren Luc, Charlotte and Oliver Whisler, Riggin and Colton Manns, Samuel Gray.
He was preceded in death by his parents and wife, Sandra Bodnar.
Visitation will take place on Sunday, November 2, 2025 from 2:00 to 6:00 p.m. at Wonderly Horvath Hanes Funeral Home and Crematory, 425 E State St., Fremont, OH.
A Mass of Christian Burial will take place Monday, November 3, 2025 at 12:00 p.m. at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, 550 Smith Rd., Fremont, OH.
Burial will follow at St. Joseph Cemetery
In lieu of flowers memorials can be made to Humane Society of Sandusky County.
