Stephen M. Caffrey, age 64, of Boynton Beach, Florida, formerly of
Methuen, MA, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, August 20, 2025, at HCA Florida JFK Hospital in Atlantis, FL.
Born in Methuen, Steve was the son of the late Lawrence J. and A. Geraldine (Cottone) Caffrey. He was a proud graduate of Central Catholic High School, class of 1979, where he formed lifelong friendships and began cultivating the values of hard work, loyalty, and community that would define his life. Steve went on to work at Western Electric and later became self-employed as a flooring installer.
Steve was known for his dry sarcasm and had no problem speaking his mind. He was happiest when surrounded by family and friends or on a golf course. His love for life was evident in everything he did-from coaching his children's sports teams to attending rock concerts, enjoying a fine cigar, or sharing stories over a cold beer from his extensive international collection.
A passionate music enthusiast, Steve found joy in the energy and spirit of rock 'n' roll, attending countless concerts throughout his life. He had a deep appreciation for golf, a sport he played as often as possible. Growing up Steve enjoyed playing basketball and loved going to Celtics games; Larry Bird was his idol. He also was a lifelong Patriots fan and enjoyed watching the sport of football. He enjoyed cooking, especially keeping his family's Italian traditions alive by perfecting his grandmother's chicken escarole soup.
Steve was immensely proud of his children and took great pride in being an involved and supportive father. His legacy lives on in the values he instilled in them and the memories they will carry forward. He was also devoted to his beloved partner, Shawna Amanatian, with whom he shared many happy years filled with love, laughter, and companionship.
In addition to his parents, Steve was predeceased by his children, Lauren K. Caffrey and William O. H. Caffrey.
He is survived by his daughter, Kellie E. (Caffrey) Devine and her husband William of
Methuen, MA; his son, Michael L.W. Caffrey of Haverhill, MA; their mother Ellen T. (Hamel) Caffrey, his beloved long term partner Shawna Amanatian of Boynton Beach, Florida; his brother, Daniel T. Caffrey and his wife Colleen of Hampton, NH; and his aunt Brenda and uncle Jeffrey Joaquim. He also leaves behind many nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family members, and dear friends who will miss him deeply.
Steve's life was a testament to the power of kindness, humor, and unwavering love for those closest to him. His memory will be cherished by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
