Stephen E Cannon

Stephen Elmer Cannon passed away unexpectedly on Tuesday, January 2nd, 2024 at his home in Laurel, at the age of 74. Originally from Bridgeville, he was born on November 2nd, 1949 to the late Elmer Cannon and Virginia Nichols.
Steve graduated From Bridgeville High School with the Class of 1968 and enlisted in the military. Stationed with the Navy out of Norfolk, Virginia, he was very proud of his contributions on the U.S.S. Hank, Tidewater, Cunningham, and Vulcan, as a Shipfitter from 1968 -1972.
Steve was a proficient carpenter and was employed with Delmarva Well Drilling, Nanticoke Memorial Hospital, and Southern Metals before starting his own construction business in the mid 1980s. Although he was not a man of many hobbies, Steve was an avid sports enthusiast, especially following football and baseball routing for his beloved Baltimore Ravens and Orioles.
Steve was preceded in death by his father and mother; sister, Linda Purse of Felton; niece, Virginia Ann Richardson; god-daughter,Amber Sinclair.
He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Sandy Newton of Sharptown, MD, a daughter Crystal of Laurel, a son Bryan and his girlfriend Debbie of Reliance, his grandchildren Shanegan and girlfriend Alissa, Brandon and Christine of Laurel, a brother-in-law Jeff Purse of Felton, a sister Deborah Richardson and her husband Anthony of Greenwood, a sister-in-law Donna Sinclair and her husband John of Crisfield, nieces, nephews, cousins and aunt who were all dearly loved by Steve.
The family acknowledges, with sincere gratitude and appreciation, the service of Stephen and all of our men and woman of the Armed Forces, May their sacrifices never be forgotten!
