Stephen Churney passed away on Saturday, February 10th, 2024 in the comfort of his home in North Brunswick, New Jersey at the age of 72
Stephen was born and raised in Darby Pennsylvania. He attended Darby high school where he ran varsity track and jumpstarted his career as a mechanic through the Folcrost votec program. Shortly after graduating from high school, Stephen entered the Philadelphia Navy Yard mechanic apprentice program and worked as a sheet metal mechanic. Stephen would continue to advance his career and work at Mcgovern inc. from 1987-1997. He would then finish his career working at Medicia in Dayton from 2000-2014, ultimately retiring in 2017.
In 1972, Stephen met his loving wife of 44 years, Selma. They would then move to North Brunswick, New Jersey where they would start a life together and raise their two daughters, Holly Romanek and Derya Churney. Nothing made Stephen happier then being in the outdoors surrounded by nature. Stephen was an avid freshwater fisherman and would spend his weekends casting in Farrington lakes. He loved animals and most of all his cat Mavi. He enjoyed his scratch off tickets and frequently play the New Jersey Lottery. Stephen was also an avid Philadelphia sports fan, his favorite teams being the Eagles and the Flyers
In addition to his parents, Stephen was predeceased by his Sister Anne Stepp in 2019
He survived by his wife of 44 years, Selma Churney. He is also survived by his two daughters, Holly Romanek and Derya Churney, his two brothers Mark and Dave and Grandchildren Hudson and Sebastian
A memorial mass will be held at 9:30am on Saturday February 17 at Our Lady of Peace church in North Brunswick, followed by a committal service at Franklin Memorial Park
