Stephen Gombos, a loving father, devoted husband, and proud American, passed away at the age of 84 on November 13, 2023 Born on July 13, 1939, in Vanscod, Hungary, he was the son of the late Gyula Gombos Irene Papp
Stephen is survived by his beloved wife of 60 years, Adele Bellonio Gombos, who stood by his side through thick and thin. Together, they created a beautiful family and shared countless cherished memories. Stephen was the father to his three daughters, Shirley Clement her husband Alan Clement of Bethany CT, Elaine Hahn of Lancaster Pa and Irene Defrank of Fairview NC
Tragically, Stephen also experienced the loss of his son, Stevie, who passed away at the tender age of 6. Though the pain of this loss was immeasurable, Stephen's love for his family remained steadfast.
Stephen was a proud and adoring pop-pop to his grandchildren, Alexandria Clement and her fiancé Alex Ciconne of Ashville, NC, Alan Clement and his wife Holly Clement of Prospect CT, and Chelsea Hahn of Lancaster, PA. He cherished every moment spent with them and took great joy in watching them grow.
In addition to his immediate family, Stephen leaves behind his brother Gyula who proceeded his passing and sister Iren, both residing in Hungary. He held a deep love for his family in Hungary and made it a priority to visit them several times a year, creating lasting memories that will be cherished forever. He leaves behind his nephews / nieces and many cherished family members, that brought amazing joy to his life.
Stephen also had 5 nephews he leaves behind in the US.
Stephen was a true friend to those in need and always lent a helping hand. He built a life for his family in America, embodying the values of hard work, dedication, and compassion.
He shared many adventures with his dear friends, traveling throughout the United States and Europe, creating memories that will be cherished by all who were fortunate enough to join them.
Stephen was a proud American, who fought for freedom during the Hungarian revolution as a freedom fighter and was fortunate enough to find asylum in the US.
A kind-hearted family, Thomas and Hazel Buchan Sr opened their hearts and home to him, in the form of sponsorship. He always spoke highly of them, treating them as if they were his own parents.
On May 9, 1969, he achieved a significant milestone by becoming a US citizen, a moment of immense joy that he often shared with pride.
Stephen had many accomplishments, from building homes, to flipping properties and providing several vacation homes for his family with pride he would say "I paid cash, no mortgage's"
Stephen loved the outdoors and spent many hours tending to his garden. He enjoyed snowmobiling with his wife and friends. He had such a passion for building homes for his family.
Stephen will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him. His legacy of love, kindness, and generosity will continue to inspire those whose lives he touched.
Family and friends are invited to join them in a celebration of life for 2-7 Nov 25 @ the Bethany Fire Department.
