In Loving Memory of Stephen J Gubin
Stephen J Gubin, born on November 20, 1937, passed away peacefully with family surrounding him on December 30, 2024, at 11:31 PM. He is lovingly remembered by his devoted wife, Helen Gubin, and their five cherished children: Susan Ward (Tony), Tammy Mayfair (Mark), Gabriel Miller(Jennifer), Ruth Gerstman (Jacob), and Rachel O'Connor (Kevin). Stephen was also a proud grandfather to 11 wonderful grandchildren: Joshua, Sasia, Matthew, Andrew, Maxwell, Charley, Lillian, Quinn, Zack, Ava, and Sawyer. Recently, he was blessed with a great-granddaughter, Kyber Joy.
Stephen was the beloved son of Lillian Ruth Weil and Louis B. Gubin. He served his country with distinction as a member of the Marine Corps, the Navy, and the Army Reserve. His dedication to the Phoenix Jewish community was unparalleled; he was a past president of Temple Solel and served as president of the Jewish Federation of Greater Phoenix, besides serving on several boards.
As the founder and co-owner of Wilson Electric, Stephen achieved great success in his professional life. He was an Electrical Contractor and Software Developer. One of his notable projects was the Diamondbacks' ballpark, completed in 1998. He also served as President of the Industry Advisory Council to the Del Webb School of Construction, part of the Engineering School, from 1998-1999
His hobbies included photography, golf, and tennis. Beyond his many accomplishments, he was the best husband, father, and grandfather one could ask for. His legacy of love, leadership, and dedication will be fondly remembered by all who knew him.
Stephen was born in Philadelphia and spent his early years during WWII in New Jersey before moving to Phoenix, Arizona, in 1951. He pursued higher education at Phoenix College, Arizona State University, Temple University, and the University of Maryland overseas. He majored in math, physics, and chemistry. His military service included roles in the Army Reserve's 915 Engineering Corps, the Navy, and the Marine Corps as a Hospital Corpsman. He also undertook a Special Ops assignment in Vietnam with the CIA.
He will be missed by all who knew him.
May his memory be a blessing.
