Stephen King Obituary
Stephen Robert King, 81, faithful husband of Janice since October 14, 1972, passed away peacefully at his home surrounded by loved ones on June 12, 2024, at 4:22pm. He found satisfaction and fulfillment in his life through his family, faith, and commitment to helping others. Stephen was born in Angola, Indiana on July 22, 1942, to the late Robert and Marie King.
Stephen valued his role as a husband and father. He was blessed with three daughters whom he loved deeply as well as their spouses and his three grandchildren.
Throughout his life, Stephen treasured memories of family travels, particularly their camping trips to Turkey Run, out West and to Canada. These experiences were cherished times of bonding and adventures that he held dear.
Professionally, Stephen was a dedicated counselor who quietly touched many lives, even beyond his immediate family's awareness. He co-founded the Fellowship of Christian Counselors in Fort Wayne twenty-four years ago and was an active member of Heal the Land, an organization dedicated to fostering peace and healing in communities affected by violence. Until recently he served as a Eucharistic minister at Parkview Hospital, finding it a privilege to bring comfort and support to others in their times of need.
Stephen's spiritual journey was a rich tapestry, spanning various denominations before finding his home in the Catholic church in 2001. He was deeply involved in the Methodist, Presbyterian, Evangelical Mennonite, Lutheran, Reformed, and Episcopal churches earlier in life, each contributing to his spiritual growth and understanding.
Nature, especially the quiet woods and water, were Stephen's sanctuary, where he found peace and connection. One of his favorite places to go was Abbey of Gethsemani with a close group of friends. He also enjoyed the Fort Wayne Philharmonic and loved supporting his nephew Ben who plays the violin. Connecting with friends was important to Stephen and even in his last days on earth, he continued to enjoy meeting with as many of them as possible. His compassionate nature and wisdom endeared him to many, bringing people together and fostering unity in his community.
Stephen will be remembered as a supportive, caring man whose legacy of service will continue to inspire those who were fortunate to have known him. His absence leaves a void in the hearts of his family and friends, who will forever cherish the memories and wisdom he shared. We love you Stephen (Dad, Papa) and you will always be part of our lives.
Survivors include:
Wife, Janice King.
Three daughters, Sarah Ann and Billy Martyn, Susan King and Stephanie and Ryan Rupp.
Three grandchildren: Kendrick Martyn, Naomi Rupp, and Emery Rupp.
Sister, Arlene Egland.
Visitation will be held Friday, June 21, 2024, from 6:00 PM - 7:30 PM at Brookside Church, 6102 Evard Road, Fort Wayne.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held Saturday, June 22, 2024, at 11:00 AM at Saint Vincent de Paul Catholic Parish, 1502 East Wallen Road, Fort Wayne, Indiana. The Knights of Columbus will have a Rosary for Stephen at 9:45 AM followed by visitation at 10:00 AM prior to the funeral mass at 11:00 AM.
Burial will follow the mass at Highland Park Cemetery, Fort Wayne.
Memorial contributions may be made to St. Vincent De Paul Society to further Stephen's passion for making a difference in the community.
1 Peter 1:3 "Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ! In his great mercy he has given us new birth into a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead, and into an inheritance that can never perish, spoil or fade."

Stephen was my cousin. I found him to be always interested in people and their individual experiences. He was a kind, considerate, sensitive man who loved his family. When I was a little girl I must have been looking at the famous soda machine. He noticed my interest and gave me a quarter so I could have my first soda. In past years I knew I could ask him for help with some relationship problems I was having and he encouraged me to seek counseling. My husband and I enjoyed Jan and his visits with us in the last few years on their way to see their daughter, son in law and grandson. And to Christian Counseling Seminars they both attended. Much love to his family through this sad time in their lives.
Love,
Gail & Chris Knight
