Stephen Thomas Korty, a dedicated farmer, beloved husband, and father passed away on Tuesday, September 24, 2024, at the age of 76 in
Lafayette, IN. Born on November 27, 1947 to the late Norbert and Marian Korty. Stephen grew up with a passion for agriculture, dedicating his life to working the land and was always fixing or creating something.
Stephen graduated from Jefferson High School in 1967. He was drafted into the U.S. Army in 1971 and served for 6 months. He worked for about 30 years at Indiana Steel Fabricating as a truck driver and fabricator. He had many other jobs including working for Holloway House, Peerless Pattern Machine Shop, and a self-employed farmer. His hard work, grit, and dedication were evident in everything he did. Known for his generosity, kind spirit, and unwavering dedication, he was a cherished member of the local community and a devout member of St. Boniface Catholic Church.
Stephen's faith was a cornerstone of his life, guiding his actions and providing him with strength and comfort. He was actively involved in his church, participating in various ministries and serving as an usher in various points in his life. Stephen volunteered at St. Ann's Catholic Church soup kitchen, where he found joy in serving those in need.
A hardworking man, Stephen dedicated himself to providing a loving home for his family. He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Pam Korty; his four children, James Korty (Michelle Korty), Elisa Strange(Michael Strange), Ryan Korty (Kathy Korty), Marlene Darnell (Ashley Darnell), and five grandchildren. He is also survived by his 9 siblings; Helen (Harold) Beiswanger, Lucy Tormoehlen, Dorothy (Mark) Thise, Herman (Karen) Korty, Jane (Roger) Synovec, Norbert (Leah) Korty, Jr., Isidore Korty, Tom (Nancy) Korty, Ruth (Fred) Grider; sister-in-law Annette Korty, brother-in-law Raymond Eickholtz, and many nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his parents; his brothers Daniel Korty, David Korty; and sisters Juliann Eickholtz and Bernadette Korty. Along with his sisters-in-law, Betty Korty, Sharon Korty, Rebecca Korty, and brother-in-law, Richard Tormoehlen
Stephen's memory will live on through his family and the many lives he touched. He is now reunited with his Lord and Savior, and his family takes comfort in knowing he is at peace in Heaven. Stephen will be deeply missed, but his spirit and contributions will always be remembered, and his faith will continue to inspire those who knew him.
A Memorial Mass celebrating Stephen's life and faith will be held on Thursday, October 3, 2024 at St. Boniface Catholic Church, in Lafayette, at 11:30 a.m. officiated by Father Andrew Dudzinski. A Rosary Service will be prayed at 10 a.m., and Memorial Visitation will be from 10:30-11:30. Friends and family are invited to join in honoring his memory. Lafayette, IN, or with Franciscan Health Foundation, Patient Assistance Fund, or Palliative and Hospice Care.
