Stephen O'Brien Obituary
Stephen J. O'Brien, age 49, died suddenly on Sunday June 9 in Wakefield, MA. He was born in Vernon, CT and raised in Newington.
Stephen spent many happy days in Willimantic and played Little Pal basketball at the old Willimantic, CT YMCA. He played little league baseball in Newington and pitched for the Newington High School baseball team.
Steve earned a Bachelor's Degree from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and received his Master's Degree in economics from Brown University.
In 2006, Stephen moved to Massachusetts. He was employed as a Senior Portfolio Manager for BNY Mellon in Boston and was a CFA Charter holder. He took great pride in his work and was a dedicated employee.
Stephen was a Red Sox and Celtics fan and enjoyed many games with family and friends. He was a lover of music, attending many concerts and enjoyed trips to Aruba with his wife and friends. He had a peaceful presence about him.
Stephen was the beloved husband of Julie L. (Tripp) OBrien., with whom he shared 18 years. He was the cherished son of Irene (Ditrichas) O'Brien of Glastonbury and Dennis O'Brien of Willimantic, and stepson to Windham State Representative Susan Johnson.
Steve is also survived by his sister, Leslie O'Brien, her husband, Anthony Kydd, and their daughters, Katharine (Kate) and Margaret (Maggie) Kydd of Willimantic, and his mother-in-law, Lorraine Gibbs and brother-in-law, Jeffrey Tripp of Maine.
Stephen is also mourned and missed by his aunts and uncles, especially Alvyra and Carl Pavano of Glastonbury with whom he was especially close, many other relatives, and numerous teammates, co-workers and friends.
Stephen's funeral mass will be celebrated at Saint Joseph Church 173 Albion Street Wakefield, Wednesday June 19 at 10:00 a.m. Visitation will be at the McDonald Funeral Home, 19 Yale Ave, Wakefield on Tuesday June 18 from 4:00-7:00 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Greater Boston Food Bank, 70 South Bay Avenue, Boston, MA 02118.
