Stephen Puopolo Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Lynch-Cantillon Funeral Home on Mar. 4, 2026.
STEPHEN EDWARD PUOPOLO – Of Tewksbury, formerly of Woburn and Canton, passed away peacefully on March 2, 2026, at the age of 52, following a courageous and hard-fought battle with cancer.

Born in Boston on October 11, 1973, Stephen was the loving son of the late Edward V. and Rosemary C. "Carole" (Collins) Puopolo. He was the beloved husband and best friend of Katherine J. (Carrigan) "Kate" Puopolo, with whom he shared 18 wonderful years of marriage. Married on November 10, 2007, theirs was a partnership built on loyalty, laughter, and unwavering devotion. He was the proud and devoted father of Edward "Eddie" Puopolo (13) and Margaret Puopolo (10), who were the center of his world.

A graduate of Xaverian Brothers High School, Class of 1992, Stephen went on to earn his bachelor's degree from Northeastern University. He built a successful career in finance, working for more than 20 years, most recently serving as an Executive Director at J.P. Morgan. He was respected not only for his intelligence and work ethic, but also for his integrity and steady leadership.

To those who knew him best, Stephen's personality shone brightest at home and among friends, especially the "Top 7". He was fiercely loyal to his family - protective of his siblings, generous with his time, and endlessly supportive. His greatest joy in life was being a father. Whether cheering from the sidelines, teaching his children how to cook, or simply sharing a laugh at the dinner table, he made sure Eddie and Margaret always felt loved and encouraged.

Stephen was an amazing cook and was especially known for his holiday dinners, which became treasured family traditions.

A devoted Star Wars fan, Stephen proudly shared his love of a galaxy far, far away with his children. He delighted in quoting favorite lines, debating characters, and introducing Eddie and Margaret to the original trilogy. He believed deeply in the saga's timeless themes of hope, courage, redemption, and the triumph of good - values he lived every day. Like the heroes he admired, Stephen faced his illness with strength and bravery, never losing his faith in himself or those around him.

He was also an avid reader who enjoyed science fiction, collecting medieval weaponry, and starting his mornings with a Dunkin' iced coffee. He valued loyalty, tradition, and time spent with those he loved.

He was a devoted brother to Edward Puopolo of Halifax; Kimberly Larcom and her husband, Rodney, of Bridgewater; Roslynne Puopolo-Malonson and her husband, Roger, of Florida; Robert Puopolo and his wife, Merrill, of Wellesley; and Brian Puopolo of Bellingham. He was the cherished son-in-law of Elaine Carrigan of Woburn and a loving nephew of Joan Collins and Theresa Woods. Stephen was a proud and fun-loving uncle to Ashley, Dominic, Shelbi, Jonathan, Olivia, Sofia, John, Michael, and Patrick, as well as three great-nephews and one great-niece. He is also survived by his extended Carrigan family, his lifelong group of friends affectionately known as the "Top 7," and many other dear friends and cousins.

Stephen's Funeral Mass will be held on SATURDAY, March 7th at 10 a.m. in St. Charles Church, 280 Main Street, Woburn. Burial to follow in St. Mary's Cemetery, Tewksbury. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to calling hours in the Lynch-Cantillon Funeral Home, 263 Main Street, Woburn, on FRIDAY, March 6th from 4-7 p.m. In lieu of flowers, remembrances may be made to the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute or to Mass Eye and Ear.

May the Force be with him - always.

With a sad and heavy heart, I offer both my and my family´s deepest and sincerest condolences to Steve´s family and friends. I will always consider Steve a friend far more than a colleague.

Steve and I met roughly ten years ago through our respective companies, and we became fast friends. We had so much in common-big Italian families, similar ages and personalities, parallel career paths, and similar pastimes. I´ll truly miss our Boston visits and the conversations that drifted from nothing to everything-always running long, yet never long enough.

I´ll always remember one Boston visit in particular. After a corporate dinner, a group insisted on finding some cannoli, but no one could agree on where to go. In a wry, blunt, matter-of-fact tone that only Steve could deliver, he loudly declared: "Mike´s is for tourists. Locals go to Modern." He said it with a sly grin, then immediately started walking toward Modern. I laughed so hard it hurt-yet of course, I followed. It was a memorable night not because of where we were or what we did, but because of the laughs we shared while being in his company.

Rest in peace, my friend. And rest assured-because of you, I´ll never go to Mike´s.

Dear Stephen, as the workday wraps up and evening settles in, I find myself reflecting, much like watching a feather drift down from an eagle overhead. The lights from the Fargo office shine through the rain and mist, and I can´t help but feel a quiet sense of sadness and longing. It´s not painful, just a gentle melancholy, the kind that comes with years of experience and the passage of time.

Tonight, I´d appreciate hearing a poem, something straightforward and sincere, not the grand classics that remind us of life´s endless hustle and the constant demands of the job. After decades of balancing ledgers and reconciling accounts, I´m looking for a bit of rest, not reminders of more work.

Maybe you would choose something from a poet who writes from the heart, someone who understands the value of simple joys and the comfort found in small moments. Those kinds of verses have a way of easing the mind, much like a quiet evening after a busy day in the office.

So, if you had a favorite poem, please read it aloud. Let your voice bring the words to life, and together, let´s let the cares of the day fade away, quietly, like tents folding up at night.
