Stephen Robert Slaughter, known as Steve, 71 of Winchester VA, passed away peacefully at his Winchester home surrounded by family after a courageous battle with cancer.
Steve was born in 1953 in Winchester, the son of the late Ralph and Jeanne Slaughter. He graduated from John Handley High School in 1971 and attended the University of Arizona in Tucson. Steve was an owner of Frederick Block, Brick & Stone.
Steve proposed to Debbie Stone, the love of his life, after just two weeks of courtship. They were married on May 22, 1976, in Winchester, VA where they spent their life raising their children.
Steve was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather who cherished spending time with his family, especially during many beach vacations where he taught them how to 'ride the waves'. He spent his time outside of work living life to the fullest with his wife and enjoying golfing with his friends.
Steve is survived by his loving wife of 50 years, Debbie; his children, Stephen Carlton Slaughter (Amy), Steffany Slaughter Plotts (Greg), Stacey Slaughter Williams (Courtney); and his cherished grandchildren, Alexis Jeanne Plotts, Stephen Finnegan Slaughter, Hudson Stone Slaughter, Preston Gregory Plotts, Raylan Cooper Williams, and Stone Sawyer Williams. He was preceded in death by his parents, Jeanne Lyles Slaughter and Ralph Eugene Slaughter, his sister Zemma Lee Shand, and his brother Bruce Alan Slaughter.
A service to honor Steve's life will be held on Thursday, May 8, 2025, at 10 am at Omps Funeral Home, Amherst Chapel. Interment will be private, and the service will be officiated by Bill Britz.
The pallbearers will be Stephen Slaughter, Greg Plotts, Courtney Williams, Finn Slaughter, Hudson Slaughter, Preston Plotts, Lexy Plotts, Raylan Williams and Stone Williams.
In Lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to Blue Ridge Hospice or the Judges Athletic Association.

Debbie, so sorry to hear of Steve´s passing. Will told me he was in
hospice. Gone way too young. Love to you and your family as you hold tight the memories of your life with Steve. Charlene (Miller)Meredith

So very sorry for your family's loss! Steve was a very community and family oriented person. We went to school and graduated together. I can say he was a good friend to my husbad and I. Sending prayers to help as you all journey through this sad time.
Our Condolences,
Mary and Denny Herring
