Stephen L. Smith, age 77, of McCandless, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by family and loved ones on Monday, December 16, 2024. Beloved husband to Theresa M. Smith and devoted father to Nathan (Tory), Sean (Leili), and Matthew Smith. Stepfather to Meghan (Gray) Cole and Michael McHenry. Grandfather to Roya, Mina, Sawyer, James, Audrey, and Logan. A devout Catholic and longtime parishioner of St. John Neumann Church in Franklin Park, he took great satisfaction in being a very active member of his church community. He served for over 37 years in various leadership roles in Beginning Experience, Marriage Encounter, Engaged Encounter, and the Stephen Ministry. Even serving as a Eucharistic Minister for 20 years. As a lifelong Christian, he drew immense comfort and strength from his faith. It led his way in death as it had guided his path in life. Steve is preceded in death by parents Donald S. Smith and Mary E. Smith (Purtle), originally of Marietta, OH; brother Timothy S. Smith of Erie, PA; wife Kathleen M. Smith and son Ben. Visitation for friends and family to be held at Simons Funeral Home, 7720 Perry Hwy, Pittsburgh, PA 15237, on 12/29/2024 from 3pm - 6pm. Mass of Christian Burial to be held at St. John Neumann Church, 2230 Rochester Rd, Pittsburgh, PA 15237, on 12/30/2024 at 10am. The family asks that in lieu of flowers, and if you would like, to please instead make a donation to the American Cancer Society in Steve's honor. Thank you.

In your hands, O Lord, we humbly entrust Steve.
In this life you embraced him with your tender love;
deliver him now from every evil
and bid him eternal rest.
The old order has passed away:
welcome him into paradise,
where there will be no sorrow, no weeping or pain,
but fullness of peace and joy
with your Son and the Holy Spirit
forever and ever.
Amen.
