Rincon – Stephen Frank Sweeney, 80, passed away November 9, 2024 at his residence after a long illness.
The Minnesota native was a U.S. Army veteran having been a M.P. He graduated from the F.B.I. Academy in Quantico, VA in 1974, went on to work for City of Savannah Police Department for over 34 years before retiring as a Lieutenant, then working for the Effingham County Sheriff's Office.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Raymond Felix Sweeney and Elsie Sophie Albright Sweeney; brothers, Gerald and Timothy Sweeney.
Survivors include his wife of over 60 years, Peggy Collins Sweeney; daughter, Tammy Otto (Glenn); brothers, Raymond Sweeney and Patrick Sweeney (Sue); sisters, Therese Sweeney and Joan Bizjack (Marty); and several nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. Thursday, November 14, 2024 at the funeral home.
Graveside services will be 11 a.m. Friday, November 15, 2024 at Beulah Baptist Church Cemetery, 700 Beulah Church Road, Pembroke, GA 31321.

Peggy our prayers are with you. So sorry for your loss. Sweeney was a wonderful man. I loved to run into him while riding motorcycles. He will be missed by so many. Greeted with a hug and a smile is how I will remember him. Terri Collins
