Stephen Hartley White passed away peacefully on August 14, 2025, in Burlington, Kentucky at the age of 78. Born on April 21, 1947, in Baltimore, Maryland, Steve's life was marked by service, advocacy, and an unwavering zest for living.

Steve proudly served in the U.S. Navy during the Vietnam War, where his bravery and dedication earned him the Republic of Viet Nam Air Gallantry Cross. His commitment to excellence continued in the classroom, as he attended the Georgia Institute of Technology before completing his Bachelor of Science in Industrial Management at the University of Cincinnati.

Those who knew Steve remember a man with deeply held convictions, a passion for life, and an unyielding drive to make a difference. When Superstorm Sandy devastated the east coast, Steve became a disaster services volunteer with the American Red Cross, managing remote sites and bringing order to chaos. His compassion and expertise supported countless victims during and after major Gulf Coast hurricanes as well. In later years, he extended his technical skill to his fellow veterans, developing a website to support a cryptology veteran group he was active with.

Beyond his dedication to service, Steve was an avid sailor, a lover of fine wine, and found joy on the slopes as a downhill skier. Family and friends will always remember his strong opinions and the way he championed every cause he embraced. As a fellow veteran once remarked, "Steve had a high regard for his opinions, but once past that, he was a good guy who was trying to make his way in the world...he never gave up."

Steve is survived by his wife, Merlita White, his sister, Donna White, and his niece, Meredith Durieux. He was preceded in death by his parents, Calvin and Irene White, and his sister, Micki White.

A funeral service with military honors will be held on Thursday, August 21, 2025, at the military cemetery in Williamstown, Kentucky. Steve will be remembered as a devoted veteran, beloved husband, and steadfast advocate for the causes he believed in.
