Steven L. Chase of Braham, passed away on Saturday, January 6, 2024, at the Cambridge Medical Center with his daughters by his side after battling cancer. He was 63 years old.
Steve was born on September 11, 1960, in Braham, Minnesota to parents Leslie and Lorna (Schrupp) Chase. He grew up in the Braham area, graduating from Braham High School in 1979.
After high school, Steve established a lifelong love of horses and rodeos while traveling the high school rodeo circuit across the state as a bull rider. When he was only 19, a farm accident where he almost lost his arm changed his life. After multiple surgeries he was able to regain some functionality, but it ended his bull riding career. He continued to enjoy riding and showing horses at the MN State Fair, attending Rodeos, working and hanging out at the Gustafson's Outback Arena near Stanchfield, and regularly attending local horse and cattle auctions.
On November 29, 1980, Steve was united in marriage to Judy Geving in Isanti. Together, they made their home around the Braham and Stanchfield area where they raised their two daughters. Steve and Judy later separated.
After his father's death in 1977, Steve helped with the family farm responsibilities. A true steward of the land, Steve strived to responsibly care for the soil and crops he grew every day of his life. While farming, Steve also spent many years working as a delivery driver for Watson Company in Cambridge, a candy distributor.
Steve enjoyed playing softball, curling, and bowling. An avid hunter of deer and pheasants, Steve always had a faithful hunting dog by his side. Family trips to Loon Lake near Vergas were spent fishing and trolling in his boat around this lake. Most of all Steve loved to spend time with his family, especially his beloved grandchildren.
Steve will be remembered for his love of horses, friendly demeanor, and for being a constant jokester. He will be dearly missed.
Steve was preceded in death by his parents, brother James Johnson, and sister-in-law Shirley Johnson.
He is survived by his daughters, Amber (Scott) Pedersen and Ashley (Nick) Bankers; grandchildren Chase, Lydia, Elsie, Emma, and Adalee; brother Wayne Chase; nieces, Kim (Pete) Bren and Kelly Peterson; many other relatives and friends.
A Memorial Service will be held at 5:00 pm on Wednesday, January 17, 2024 at the Braham Event Center with Pastor Julie Beck officiating.
A Memorial Visitation will be held from 3:00-5:00 pm on Wednesday at the Event Center.
