Robert Stephen "Steve" Gobrecht, Sr., 78, of Knoxville, Tennessee, passed away peacefully on September 29, 2025. He was born on November 15, 1946, in Cincinnati, Ohio, and lived a life full of love, hard work, and devotion to his family.
Steve earned his Bachelor's Degree at the University of Cincinnati and went on to build a long and distinguished career in retail. He finished his career as a Senior Executive with Goody's Family Clothing. Goody's was not only his career but also where he met lifelong friends. Colleagues and friends admired him not only for his professional achievements but also for the genuine care and respect he showed to others.
He proudly served in the Ohio National Guard, carrying with him the values of service and responsibility throughout his life.
Outside of work, Steve's world revolved around his family. He treasured time with his grandchildren, loved being out on the water boating, and enjoyed attending University of Tennessee sporting events with friends. His family and friends knew him as a man who lived fully, gave generously, and loved deeply.
Steve was preceded in death by his beloved son, Robert Stephen Gobrecht, Jr., his father, Robert Dayton Gobrecht, and his mother, Arnetta "Bonnie" Gobrecht. He is survived by his devoted wife, Liz; his children, Adam, Beth, and Bart, (wife-Ashley); his grandchildren, Stephen Watkins, Grace Watkins, and Jack Watkins; his sisters, Joy Morris, Gayle Dorto, and many nieces, nephews, extended family members, and friends.
A Gathering of Friends will be held on October 10, 2025, from 4–6 p.m. at Click Funeral Home, Farragut.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, Tunnels to Towers, or Wounded Warriors.
Steve will be remembered for his big heart, strong character, and unwavering love for his family. Everyone who had the privilege of knowing him was touched by his warmth and kindness, and his memory will live on in the lives he shaped and the love he shared.
