Steven Ray Jackson Sr., of West Columbia, South Carolina, was born on December 11, 1957, in Salem, Ohio, and passed away peacefully at home on October 25, 2025, at the age of 67, surrounded by his loving family. He grew up in Alliance, Ohio, where he developed a strong work ethic and a lifelong love for cars and mechanics.

Steve was a talented mechanic and proudly owned and operated his own automotive shop for 25 years. Known as one of the best transmission specialists in the Southeast, his dedication, craftsmanship, and hard work earned him the respect and trust of many. Friends and family affectionately called him “Wild Man,” a nickname that perfectly captured his bold spirit and love for life.

Steve enjoyed woodworking, gardening, and spending time outdoors. He loved racing, cheering on Clemson and the Cleveland Browns, relaxing by the fire, and watching Dale Earnhardt tear up the track. He found peace in caring for his fish tanks and spending time with his cats. He especially loved traveling, fishing, and hiking with his wife, Phyllis.

He was kind-hearted, always ready with a good laugh or a playful prank, and he cherished time with close friends and family.

He is survived by his devoted wife of 27 years, Phyllis Jackson; his daughter, Regina “Gina” Lockwood (husband David); and his son, Steven “Junior” Jackson Jr. (wife Tia). He is also survived by his father, Richard Jackson; his sisters, Kathy Lyell and Karen Long; his brother, Earl Long; and many nieces and nephews who loved him dearly.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Martha Miller; his brother, Larry Long; his sister, Bonnie Hoehn; and his son, Michael Barker.

Steve will be remembered for his laughter, his big heart, and the joy he brought to those around him. He will be deeply missed by his family and friends.

A celebration of life will be held at a later date.
