William Stevenson Ramsey, Jr, our brother, passed away peacefully on Thursday June 10, 2021. A Mass will be held celebrating his life at the Holy Trinity Catholic Church located at 315 Marshall Street at 2:00PM, June 17, 2021. Officiating will be Father Duane C. Trombetta and Father Charles Glorioso. Interment at Forest Park Cemetery, St. Vincent Ave. will follow the service.
Steve was born on Barksdale AFB, Louisiana, September 9, 1945 to Captain William Stevenson Ramsey and Helen Johnson Ramsey. He attended St. John's High School and LSU in Baton Rouge, Louisiana where he pledged Sigma Alpha Epsilon Fraternity. Apologies to anyone named Chet Swan for Steve using his name for his questionable behavior. Steve loved motor sports of all kinds especially Indy Cars and NASCAR 500 Races! He built his own "Hot Rod" in l964 which kept him in constant TROUBLE on Carondelet. He was the manager of the Johnson Building for many years.
Steve's life centered around a large group of lifetime friends, various work endeavors and his love for building design. He loved a good laugh, had a lively sense of humor and never complained about the hurdles put before him. He competed and finished several local triathlons. Steve attended a Catholic Retreat and rededicated himself to Our Lord. Despite his early loss of sight, he attended Mass often and religiously practiced the Lentin season looking forward to day "forty".
Steve experienced a debilitating illness but never allowed that to get in his way of enjoying a full and active life. Nothing was easy for Steve but he was determined to be upbeat every day and never complained about his burdens. He was preceded in death by his parents, infant brother Paul, his brother-in-law, Rique Linam and his dear friend Jessie.
Steve is survived by his caring family; W.H. Johnson Ramsey (JoAnn), Peter Dobson Ramsey (Theresa), and sister Reade Ramsey Linam. Steve was loved by his nieces, H. Parrish Ramsey (Thomas S. Lawson III), and J. Paige Hoffpauir (Chase A. Hoffpauir) and his nephews P. Dobson Ramsey, Jr. (Julie) and F. James Ramsey. He was also loved by his great nieces and nephews Carmen, Hayden, Ramsey, Tripp and Josie.
Pallbearers are: Paul Caplis, Bill Fleming, Jim Ramsey, Dobson Ramsey, Chase Hoffpauir, Thomas Lawson, Pat Loftus, Red Vanderkuy and Ed Roper. Honorary Pallbearers: David Tigner, Sonny Boogaerts, Walter Smith, David Harter, Al Childs, and Donnie Richardson. Special thanks to Lena Parker and Ron Cicero for their continued loyalty.
In lieu of flowers, please send charitable contributions to the American Association of the Blind or the St. Joseph's Carpenter House. Family and friends are invited to meet at the Noble Savage Tavern at 4:30PM Thursday to celebrate his life.

Steve had more friends and fun than anyone that I know. He was a gentleman, friend, brother and by his love of life, made us all a little happier when we were around him.
