Steve Allison Shuman Jr. ("Juna") 52, died suddenly on Tuesday July 16, 2024, at his childhood home - Strawberry Hill, outside of Ridgeland SC. He was born in Savannah Ga. to Steve Allison Shuman Sr. and Sylvia Lowther Shuman on August 12,1971. He is survived by his parents, brother Justin Shuman, Daughters, Brisen Schubert Thomas of Beaufort and Baylee Suzzanne Shuman of Branchville. Uncles Barry Lowther, Patrick Standish, his great Uncle Jimmy Lowther and 2 grandchildren, Braelyn Kenslee Thomas and William Martin Thomas, his favorite cousin, Thomas Lowther and cousins Mandy Shuman, Little Barry Lowther, Tuesday Lowther Mock, Jenna Lowther Beckett, Margaret "Meg" Lowther Torres, Nick Lowther and JJ Lowther. He was pre-deceased by his grandparents, Uncles Dana Shuman, Jackie Lowther and Cousin Candy Shuman. Steve was a quintessential son of the SC Lowcountry. He had hunted, fished, gigged, shrimped and dodged game wardens, since he was a small boy. A natural and very gifted athlete, he played linebacker for Thomas Heyward Academy, receiving awards and playing in several state championships. He was one of very few private school players to ever be selected for the "All costal empire" team, which showcased the best players in Coastal SC and Georgia. He hit HARD every time and opposing teams feared him. Steve loved dogs and hunting with dogs which led him to work on various Lowcountry plantations, to include Brays Island, Gregory Neck, Turkey Hill and Davant. Forever battling insomnia, he spent many nights out with his coon hound, Hammer. The second half of his working life was spent serving the public as Firefighter and Paramedic in Jasper and Orangeburg Counties and on Hilton Head. He was a very knowledgeable and talented Paramedic. Steve loved to pick on his friends, was an avid practical joker, fun, well liked and highly intelligent. Sadly, a battle with addiction to opioid painkillers created a rollercoaster of difficult issues for him over the last half of his life. An estrangement from his 1st born daughter, Brisen, and divorce from his first wife, Amy Waltz were a recurrent source of frustration and regret for him. His last great love was his 2nd daughter Baylee, who he doted on and adored. We hope he is in Heaven, scooting down a river in his boat, with Abby and Mack - his favorite labs. He was very loved and will be sorely missed. A celebration of Life will be held at a later date.
