Steven D. Arseneau, 60, of South Range, WI, passed away Sunday, April 6, 2025, at Solvay Hospice House in Duluth, MN with his family by his side.
He was born March 16th (debatable) 1965 in
Superior, WI, the son of Clifford and Delores (Arpin) Arseneau.
The "North End" was a very big part of Steve's heritage. It's like being a cowboy or farmer, it made him who he was. They took a lot of pride in saying they were from the North End. His entire family played an important part of the north end life. Steve's mom, dad, siblings, as did everyone who lived there. Everybody knew everybody. They had a reputation just for living on the wrong side of the tracks, but the people who lived there loved every part of it. They loved, trusted and relied on each other. Steve wouldn't have changed his childhood for the world. Playing ball, listening to music, and starting a band in an old bus.
Steve has always been a hard worker, starting at a very young age of 11 shining shoes in the North End of Superior. Out of high school he went to work at Douglas County Elderly Nutrition Program for 2 years before he took a position at the Superior Memorial Hospital as a Dietary Aide. In 1992, he began to work as a route sales representative for G&K Laundry Services for 24 years, where he earned the highly coveted Spirit of Excellence Award in 2014 which included a trip to San Diego to receive his award. In January 2015, he joined the DTA as a service worker. In March 2016 and February 2023 he was awarded the Employee of the Month and that same year, Employee of the Year. Steve retired from the DTA after 10 years of service due to his health at age 59. There's no doubt that any company that had him as an employee would say he was the best of the best.
On October 27, 1994, Steve welcomed his baby girl Tiana who he absolutely adored and raised to be just like him. Steve and his wife Brook met on March 11, 2006, where they were set up as pool tournament partners. He told her, "I'm sorry to tell you that you are stuck with me for the rest of your life". Brook had 3 small children of her own, Bayleigh, Drew and Gavin, but that didn't bother him at all, he said, "I would love her if she had 10". They were married 3 years later on August 29, 2009, in Iron River, WI where the two families became one. On July 17, 2010, they welcomed their daughter Ava, who made their family feel complete. Since, he has welcomed a daughter-in-law, Alexis, a son-in-law, Jowell, and two grandchildren, Lillian and Benjamin. His family was the most important thing to him and only wanted them to be hard-working, good people.
Steve was an athlete starting at a young age playing basketball, football, and baseball where he was usually coached by his dad. As a baseball player he was one of the greats. He continued to be a star when he played league softball in his 20s, but sports weren't the only thing he excelled at, he was good at EVERYTHING he was passionate about.
He took after his brother Irv in his love for billiards. Playing in leagues for many years, some would say he was the best around. Even winning himself a Wisconsin state championship in 2005. Steve was in love with music, especially playing guitar. He could listen to a song and know how to play it for you within minutes. It was a true talent. He also enjoyed photography, mostly taking pictures of nature and his family. He loved camping, biking, hiking, and sitting in his backyard in front of a fire, a Bacardi coke in his hand and his family by his side. If he wasn't doing these things, you could find him at Wisconsin Point, Amnicon Falls or Island Lake in Barnes, WI fishing. He was a loyal Wisconsin fan, rarely missing a Brewer or Packer game. And don't forget Friday night dirt track races, the sound, the smell, the lights, the people. One of his favorite places to be every Friday night his entire life.
Preceding him in death were his parents, Clifford and Delores Arseneau; brothers, Michael Converse and Irvin Arseneau; and brothers-in-law, Travis Sotona and Larry Lawler.
Survivors include his wife, Brook Arseneau, South Range, WI; children, Tiana (Jowell) Daniels, Lenexa, KS, Bayleigh Sotona, Superior, Drew (Alexis) Sotona, Superior, Gavin Sotona, Superior, and Ava Arseneau, South Range; grandchildren, Lillian and Benjamin Sotona; brother, Clifford (Kathy) Arseneau, Superior; sisters, Cathy Lawler (Dickie Packard), Colorado Springs, CO, and Debbie (Doug) Severin, Superior; father and mother-in-law, Glenn and Cindy Sotona, Iron River, WI; brother-in-law, Brock Sotona, Iron River, WI; and several cousins, nieces and nephews.
