November 7, 1960-AUGUST 10, 2025
Steven, known by all as "Brownie", passed away on Sunday, August 10th at Mid-Coast Hospital in Brunswick, Maine surrendering to his battle with Emphysema and COPD. He was in the kind care of the wonderful medical staff in the ICU, Emergency Department and EMTs.
Born to Edward J. Brown and Sandra M. Brown in Santa Monica California, he was the third of five children. Remaining to cherish Steven's memory are his four siblings; Edward Brown (wife Nicole and their children/grandson) of Henderson, Nevada, Brigit Cavanagh (husband Arthur and their children/grandchildren) of Phippsburg, Maine, Lucy Imperatore (her children) of Newport, RI, and Timothy Brown (his children) of Santa Maria, California. He was also survived by his step-brothers Jack Halliwell, Mikel Halliwell, Bruce Halliwell, and pre-deceased by Gary Halliwell. He also enjoyed a wonderful relationship with Brown family cousins, and cousin Simon Minor of Cape Cod. Brigit and Arthur Cavanagh and their children Kelsey, Tara, and J lovingly cared for Brownie as his illness progressed.
Brownie grew up in Newport R.I. and summered on Martha's Vineyard. As a child Brownie was thoughtful, curious, and loving. Brownie collected many friends throughout his life and was always ready for fun or to lend a helping hand. He was an accomplished cook, as well as, a woodworker/handyman. And he shared his talents generously.
As a boy he was drawn to adventure. He loved swimming, skiing, boating, and fishing. He kept this childlike enthusiasm throughout his life. Brownie attended Boston School of Architecture and moved to Maine to pursue his passion for restoring old homes and boats. Brownie never wanted to be confined to an office setting and lived his life authentically taking on opportunities that came his way.
Those who knew Brownie enjoyed his keen sense of humor, love of comic strips, and gregarious laughter. Brownie was a member of Bath Elks, where he found camaraderie and great enjoyment volunteering at their fundraiser events.
A private memorial service will be held to honor Steven's memory.
