Steven Paul Craven

With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Steven Paul Craven on October 25, 2023, at the age of 78. Surrounded by love and prayers, he transitioned to the next life, guided by his strong faith in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Steve is now reunited with loved ones who have gone before and embraced by the eternal promises of The Gospel.

 

Born on June 11, 1945, in Salt Lake City, Utah, Steve was the son of Adele and Paul Craven. He attended Highland High before he enlisted in the US Marine Corps Reserve and served in the 21st Rifle Company from 1963 to 1971. He attended Utah State University where he met the love of his life, Paula Rhees. They were married on August 29, 1969, and together they built a beautiful life and family. A steadfast provider and perfectionist, Steve toiled industriously in his thriving profession as a concrete contractor where he especially loved challenging projects.

 

He was known for his love of life and family. Some of his most cherished memories include fishing with his dad at Whitney Reservoir, adventuring in the High Uintas, golfing at the White Barn, mini golfing, where he generously rewarded for holes-in-one, biking around Bear Lake and to Lava Hot Springs, skiing, RVing with Art and Lindy, and visits to Arctic Circle. His bowling skills were exceptional, and he relished participating in bowling leagues. He constructed the family cabin at Bear Lake, sanding every log himself. This home served as a beloved gathering spot for numerous friends and family members, brimming with cherished memories and happiness. It was always a place where he felt love and solace, especially in his final years.

 

His love for family extended to his community as he served in many church positions, most notably as a Bishop in the Pleasant View 7th Ward, Stake Young Men’s Leader, High Councilman, and an ordinance worker in the Ogden Temple, sharing his testimony and dedication with fellow members. Steve had a deep love for genealogy and temple work, where he performed sacred ordinances to bind families together for eternity. Steve served two missions in Little Rock, Arkansas alongside his cherished wife, forging enduring friendships and connections. Steve's dedication to service epitomized his strong, friendly, outgoing personality and his championing spirit for all.

 

Steve is survived by his wife, Paula; seven children, Lindy (Art), Dusty (Annie), Cody (Angie), Kami (Adam), Tyson (Natalie), Cassi (Chadd), and Cole (Kara); 31 grandchildren, and 11 great-grandchildren, all of whom were blessed by his guidance and example; and two sisters, Carillon Steorts and Becky Jarmon. He also leaves behind a community of friends who were touched by his kindness and devotion.

 

A graveside service celebrating Steve’s life will be held on Monday, November 6, 2023 at 2:00 p.m. at the Ben Lomond Cemetery. The family invites all who knew him to join in remembering his legacy of faith, love, and service.

 

As we mourn our physical loss, we take comfort in the knowledge that his spirit lives on in a realm of endless light and joy. Rest in peace, faithful servant of the Lord. You will be deeply missed, but your legacy of faith and love will endure through the ages.
