Newcomer Cremations, Funerals & Receptions - Northern Kentucky ChapelSteven Irving Durkee, age 76, of Covington, Kentucky, passed away on Tuesday, July 22, 2025. Born on February 7, 1949, in Spokane, Washington, he was the son of Donald and Winifred Durkee (nee Stevens).
He is preceded in death by his parents, Donald and Winifred Durkee, and his sister, Jennifer S. Hall. Steven is lovingly survived by his devoted wife of 54 years, Kathleen Cheryl Durkee (nee Keck), along with their daughters, Paige (Alex Doty) Durkee and Stephanie (Matt) Specter. He was a cherished brother to Richard Durkee and a proud grandfather to Faith Specter, Sydney Doty, Mars Specter, Robby Specter, and Hannah Specter. Steven is also survived by a host of extended family members and friends who will miss him deeply.
Known for his generosity and commitment to service, Steven enjoyed golfing, traveling, reading, and engaging with the St. Charles Community. He dedicated time as a volunteer at the Kenton County family courts and was a long-term participant and cook for the Thursday Morning Men's Non-denominational Prayer Breakfast.
A lifelong learner, Steven cherished his time at Covington Catholic High School as a religion teacher and swim coach. Steven loved attending Xavier University basketball games and was an avid supporter of his children and grandchildren's activities, celebrating their milestones and achievements with great pride.

A Mass for his life will be held at 11:00 AM on Saturday, August 2, 2025, with a visitation from 9:00 AM to 11:00 AM at the Cathedral Basilica of the Assumption, located at 1130 Madison Ave., Covington, Kentucky 41011.
