Steven Grubb Obituary
Steven M. Grubb of Quincy passed away peacefully on January 30, 2024 surrounded by his loving family, after a courageous battle with cancer. He was 62. Steven was the devoted brother of Janice Crowell of Weymouth, Deborah Lavalley and her late husband Malcolm of Pembroke, and Robert Grubb of Charlestown, as well as the late Pamela Grubb and Linda Grubb of Quincy. He was the proud uncle and great uncle of many cherished nieces, nephews, and their children.
Steven was born in South Boston on June 23, 1961, the beloved son of the late Catherine (McCann) and Robert Grubb. He graduated from North Quincy High School. Steven was a dedicated custodian for the Weymouth Public Schools for 19 years. He enjoyed getting to know the teachers and children during his time there, first at the Ralph Talbot Elementary School, and later at Weymouth High School.
In his free time, Steven enjoyed being a sportsman and was a longtime member of the Braintree Rifle and Pistol Club. Living in the Wollaston neighborhood of Quincy, he especially loved taking walks along Wollaston Beach, as well as other beaches along the South Shore. Steven lived in his Wollaston home for 53 years and was blessed with many wonderful neighbors, especially his dear friend Clara Irvine. Steven was grateful for her unfailing friendship.
More than anything, Steven treasured spending time with his adoring family. He was always close with his siblings, and they shared a special bond that many would envy. Steven was devastated first by the loss of his younger sister Pam, and later of his older sister Linda. He took every opportunity to visit with his sisters Janice and Debbie and their families, knowing that life is short and you never know what tomorrow brings. Steven's humor and quick wit kept them all laughing whenever they were together.
Steven easily earned the spot of favorite uncle among his nieces and nephew, and he indulged them in countless hours of board games and outdoor play when they were young. When those nieces and nephews grew to have children of their own, Steven continued being a doting uncle to his grandnieces and grandnephews. He enjoyed surprising them with special toys or treats that let them know he was always thinking of them, and he loved visiting them and getting to see them engage in their hobbies and interests. Steven showered them with love just as he did their parents, and we are all heartbroken that they did not get to have Steven as part of their lives for longer.
Steven will be missed dearly by all who knew and loved him. He will be forever remembered for his gentle soul and compassionate nature. Per Steven's request, there will be no service or funeral. A celebration of his life will be planned for a later date. During this time of sorrow, we find solace in the Irish saying, "Death leaves a heartache no one can heal; Love leaves a memory no one can steal.
