Steven L. Hammell, age 76, of Mason, Ohio, formerly of Lynchburg, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, September 3, 2025, at the West Chester UC Hospital. He was born October 5, 1948, in Montgomery, Ohio, the son of the late Chester Hammell Sr. and Marion (Schnelle) Hammell.
Steven was a 1967 graduate of Lynchburg-Clay High School and went on to earn his associate degree from the University of Cincinnati. He was a faithful member of the Harwood Church of Christ.
He proudly served his country in the United States Air Force Reserves for 15 years, demonstrating his dedication and love for his nation.
For many years, Steven owned and operated Hammell's Auto and Truck, where his dedication, honesty, and mechanical skill earned him the respect and trust of his community. Beyond his work, Steven loved being outdoors on the golf course, tinkering with cars and trucks, and most of all, sharing time and laughter with his family and brothers.
Those who knew Steven will remember his warm smile, gentle spirit, and the way he made others feel valued. He had a gift for friendship and a deep love for his family, which will remain his greatest legacy.
Steven is survived by his two brothers, Daniel E. Hammell of Lynchburg and Geoffrey J. Hammell of Lynchburg. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Chester Hammell Jr.
Visitation will be held from 11:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. on Tuesday September 9, 2025, at the Turner & Son Funeral Home in Hillsboro. Funeral services will take place at 1:00 p.m. following visitation at the funeral home. Burial will follow in the Barker Cemetery.
