MCCORDSVILLE – Steven Vance Harting, age 74, of McCordsville, passed away Saturday, February 19, 2022, at Community Heart & Vascular Hospital in Indianapolis. He was born in Indianapolis, Indiana on April 6, 1947, to Carl & Lois (Sandefur) Harting. He graduated from Mt. Vernon High School in 1966. He served in the Army National Guard for several years. Steve married Kathy (Burns) Harting on January 23, 1995, in Gatlinburg, Tennessee.
Steve spent much of his career as a Machinist at Indianapolis Navistar until retirement. In his retirement, he continued to work on the family farm. Steve was a big animal lover. He enjoyed trips with his Better Breathers Club, reading, and restoring old tractors. Above all else, he loved and cherished time with his grandchildren. One of his favorite activities with them was taking them for rides on his tractor.
Steve is survived by his wife, Kathy Harting; children, Abby (Joel) Stacey; Donnie (Bill) Waltman; Alex (Hannah) Suits; 6 grandchildren, Reagan and Tatum Stacey; Julian, Gavin, and Sadie Waltman; Ruger Suits; brothers, William and Byron Harting; and sister, Mary Beth McCarty. Steve was preceded in death by his parents mentioned above.
Visitation will be held on Friday, February 25, 2022 from 10:00am to 1:00pm at Erlewein Mortuary & Crematory, 1484 W. US Hwy 40, Greenfield, IN 46140. Private Burial will follow.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made by mail to Greenfield-Hancock Animal Management, 2195 W US Hwy 40, Greenfield, IN 46140. Envelopes will be available at the mortuary. Friends may share a memory or condolence at www.erleweinmortuary.com.
