Steven Michael Helms, 79, of Charlotte passed away on September 25, 2024 at Novant Health Presbyterian Medical Center. He was born on September 28, 1945 to the late Joel and Ollie Helms. He is also preceded in death by his brother, Charles Rann Helms. Steven was a U.S. Army Veteran and was a member of Sunset Road Baptist Church in Charlotte where he was very active serving as a deacon and as the Sunday School Director. He also served as a previous member of The Gideon's. Steven was retired after 30 years from the U.S. Postal Service. He loved watching football and was an avid Washington Commanders (Redskins) fan. Above all, Steven was a devoted father and loved his children. He also enjoyed woodworking at his shop where he had made various items through the years but his most prized production was the family Grandfather Clock.
Survivors include his loving wife of 49 years, Reba Efird Helms; sons, Jeffery and Jeremy Helms; grandchildren, Matthew and Zachary Helms; sister-in-laws, Sharon Thompson and Melba Barbee; and nephew, Johnny Helms (Sonia).
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, October 5, 2024 at 11:00 a.m. at Sunset Road Baptist Church, 2317 Sunset Road, Charlotte, NC 28216, with Revs. Joshua Latham and Steve Bass officiating. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service from 10:00 a.m. - 11:00 a.m.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Church Media Fund, Sunset Road Baptist Church, 2317 Sunset Road, Charlotte, NC 28216.
