Mr. Steven Richard Knight (1951 - 2022)
Steven Richard Knight, a long-time Columbus resident, was 71 years old when he passed away on Tuesday, October 4, 2022. He died after a courageous battle with a long-term illness. Steve was a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, and good friend.
Born in Shelbyville and raised in Indianapolis, Indiana, by Mary Eads and Richard Knight, Steve developed a passion for sports while attending North Central High School. He moved on to attend Ball State University, where he met his future wife, Meri E. Knight (née Mary Levings).
Steve and Meri raised three children in Columbus. During this time, Steve built a successful business as an insurance salesman with Allstate Insurance, a job that allowed him to make many friends and support the local community. He attended and supported the First United Methodist Church. His faith sustained and comforted him throughout his life. Over time, he celebrated the arrival of four grandchildren. Family and friends were everything to Steve.
Steve was a true gentleman, with a generous nature, who never met a stranger. He was truly hilarious; the laughs never stopped when Steve was around. His passions included music, cars, bicycle rides, movies, and McDonald's cokes. The beach was his happy place; the times spent there with family and friends were some of his best memories.
Steve demonstrated tremendous strength and dignity throughout his illness, with the unwavering support of his wife, Meri, and family. Our family is tremendously grateful for the support of the team from Our Hospice of South Central Indiana and the Emergency Medical Technicians of both Columbus Regional Hospital and German Township.
Steve is survived by his beloved wife of 50 years, Meri; children Jason (Niccole) Knight of Greenwood, Courtney (Jaime Torres) Knight of Columbus, Angie (Steve Rose) Knight of Louisville, CO, grandchildren Solomon, Julius, Ayla and Nash of Indiana and Colorado; his brothers Bruce and David Knight of Phoenix, AZ; and his long-time friend, Randy (Jeanie) Scofield of Columbus.
A celebration of life service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday, October 14, 2022, at First United Methodist with the Rev. Howard Boles officiating.
A time of visitation will be held from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. Thursday, October 13, 2022, at Barkes, Weaver & Glick Funeral Home on Washington Street.
In keeping with the family's wishes, cremation will take place following visitation.
Memorial contributions may be made to Our Hospice of South Central Indiana or First United Methodist Church.
Online condolences and special memories may be shared with the family and a video tribute may be viewed at barkesweaverglick.com

I will always have the best memories of Steve and how happy my dad was when they hung out. He had the best laugh and always felt like family to me. I think my last memory with him was a time he and my dad took me to play golf and go to Don Pablo´s. It was a fond memory of them both.
