Steven Wayne Lyons

Steven "Steve" Wayne Lyons, 62, of Oklahoma City, OK passed away on December 14, 2021. He was born April 14, 1959, in Pampa, TX to John B. Lyons and Helen Elaine (Verner) Lyons. Growing up, Steve lived in numerous towns in the Texas and Oklahoma Panhandle, graduating from Boise City High School in 1977. He attended Sterling College and then transferred to Northwestern Oklahoma State University, graduating with a B.A. in English Literature.
Steve married his soul mate, Sheree Beth Benson on May 16, 1986, and they made their home in Alva, OK with their daughter Melissa. They eventually made their way to Edmond in 1993, where Steve began his career working at Mardel. He worked with devotion for Mardel for 28 years until his health forced him to retire.
Steve loved life and had an inner calm that showed to all who knew him. He would help someone in need even though he wasn't asked and did not ask for anything in return. His dry sense of humor and twinkle in his eye would make anyone laugh. He earned his Black Belt in taekwondo, enjoyed hiking, and loved to travel, especially to Taos, NM. He had a great appreciation of art, theater and literature and had acquired a small library of books. Steve's faith in God was always central to his life and he attended Mass faithfully, until his health would not allow it.
Family was very important to Steve, and he was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother and uncle. He made each one feel special and gladly listened and discussed their life happenings. He will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
He is survived by his daughter, Melissa Zerbe and husband, Jon; grandchildren, Dylan and wife, Alexandra, Shelbee and Carter Glenn; and great-grandchild, Gabriel Glenn; brothers, John Lyons and wife, Clydene; children, Emily and Ethan Lyons, and Mike Lyons and wife, Sheryl; children, Trevor, Megan and Tara Lyons; and numerous cousins and friends. Steve was preceded in death by his parents and his wife, Sheree, who passed in 2009.
A celebration service of Steve's life will be held on Monday, December 20, 11am at St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church. Viewing will be Sunday, December 19, from 11am-8pm, with family present from 3-5pm at Mercer Adams Funeral Service, Bethany, OK.
