Steven Esford Michael, 65, of Charlevoix passed away Monday May 1, 2023 in Traverse City after battling brain cancer; a Glioblastoma. He had his loving family at his side until the very end.
Steven was born in Detroit, MI to the late John and Jeanne (Esford) Michael. The family moved to Charlevoix and that’s where he grew up. In his teen years he spent a lot of time at the family cabin where he had so many fond memories. During high school Steve excelled in many school athletics. He graduated from Charlevoix High in the Class of 1976. After graduation he went on to study at Ferris State University, Northern Michigan University, and eventually graduating from Michigan State with a degree in Psychology. After college, Steve went into the banking world. He worked for Bank of America, Independent Bank and ended his career at Lake Michigan Credit Union.
Steve enjoyed being a member of the Charlevoix Lions Club. For many years he pulled the Lions float in the Venetian Parade, grilled the famous Lemon Pepper Chicken and sold the Christmas Trees.
In his spare time Steve enjoyed spending time on the water, skiing, hunting, fishing, golfing, biking, and was a die hard Michigan State Spartan fan. He and his daughter Celia cherished taking their beloved dog Izzy on long walks in the woods and spending summer days on their boat. He felt most at peace when he was outdoors.
Steve was a true and loyal friend, with a great sense of humor. He will be deeply missed by all those who knew and loved him.
Steve is survived by his daughter Celia, his siblings, Julie (Mark) Boyd of Washington, Sally (Stewart) Mckenzie of Atlanta, Lisa (Ron) Hillis of Wisconsin, and Chris Michael of Charlevoix, many nieces, nephews, cousins and so many friends.
He is preceded in death by his parents.
