Steven C. Miller, age 70, of Lawrence Park Twp., passed away peacefully, at his home and surrounded by family, on Saturday, December 30, 2023, following his battle with lung cancer. He was born in Erie on May 9, 1953, the son of the late Charles G. and Mary Rita (Samson) Miller.
Steve was a 1971 graduate of Harbor Creek High School and eventually went on to study at Penn State University, Behrend College. Immediately upon his high school graduation, Steve enlisted in the U.S. Navy and proudly served during the Vietnam War. During his service, he spent time aboard the USS Thomas Alva Edison (SSBN-610) patrolling the coast of Spain. He was employed by the General Electric Co. for 30 years prior to his retirement. He was a member of the U. E. Local #506, G.E. Quarter Century Club, and the Retirees Association as well as the East Erie Moose Lodge. Steve served his community as a volunteer firefighter and EMT for many years as well as having served as a Little Gridders and Little League coach.
Ever the sports enthusiast, Steve was a reliable presence at the ball fields wherever his children happened to be playing. While raising his kids in Lawrence Park, he coached them in little league and never missed a game or practice as their biggest supporter. He went on to become his grand kids' super fan and was excited to watch them take on a love for sports and loved to watch them play as well. In years past, Steve's love of music, singing, and playing the guitar led him to form the band, "Miller and Funk". In addition, Steve served as a ski instructor at Peek'n Peak. He enjoyed hunting, bicycling, and spending time with his family and friends sitting out in his garage. Steve will be lovingly remembered for his quick wit, sarcasm, and for being a stubborn teddy bear who was a generous giver and helper with no questions asked.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 42 years, Sandra S. "Sandy" Schreiber Miller; his one true love that he never learned to live without.
Survivors include his two children: Shaun B. Miller (Shelly) and Jenny N. Marche (Michael); three grandchildren: Kensley and Michael "Mikey" Marche and Dylan Messina; two brothers: Kris Miller (Jackie) and Jay Miller (Deborah); his best friend, Mike Krahe (Linda); and nieces and nephews.
Family and friends are warmly invited to call at the Dusckas-Taylor Funeral Home & Cremation Services, 5151 Buffalo Rd. (at Hannon Rd. in Harborcreek Twp.), on Saturday, January 6th from 1:00 to 3:00 p.m. Full military honors will be rendered at the conclusion of calling hours. Steve was always smiling and easygoing. He was the one dad who wasn't scared to let me hang out with his daughter. I heard he could get mad, but I never saw him raise his voice. He enjoyed helping those in his community and celebrating with them. Steve was a kind man and he will be missed.
