Steven Alan Nath

Steven Alan Nath, 71, passed away on Sunday, November 26, 2023 at University of Iowa Hospital in Iowa City after a long battle with Alzheimer's Disease.
Visitation will be held 4:00 to 7:00 P.M. Friday, December 1, 2023 at Henderson- Barker Funeral Home in West Liberty. Funeral services will be held 1:00 P.M. Saturday, December 2 at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in West Liberty, Iowa with Father Guillermo Trevino officiating. Burial will be in Mt Calvary Cemetery of West Liberty. A gathering and snacks for family and friends will be held back at the church following the interment.

Steven was born the middle child of John Hugo and Nancy (Hughes) Nath on February 5, 1952 in Iowa City. He graduated from West Liberty High School in 1970. On March 10, 1973 he was united in marriage to his high school sweetheart, Gertrude Howard at St. Joseph Catholic Church in West Liberty. He went on to get his Finance Degree from the University of Iowa. Upon graduation he worked for Iowa State Bank & Trust. Subsequently he worked for Toyota of Iowa City and Banks of Iowa Corporation in Cedar Rapids and then at Mid-Eastern Council on Chemical Abuse (MECCA) in Iowa City retiring as CFO in 2007.
Steve was very involved in his kids' extracurricular school activities, including serving on the West Liberty School Board. Steve was a Christian by faith. He was an avid reader and student of history. He loved fishing trips with his Dad and his brother. He also enjoyed family vacations to Estes Park, Colorado. He also loved being a Hawkeye but most importantly he was a charter member of the Blue Bus Group.
Survivors include his wife of 50 years, Gertrude (Howard) Nath of West Liberty, one daughter Alison (Bill) Schwartz of Pawnee, Oklahoma, one son, Alex Nath of Iowa City, two grandchildren: Angelia Schwartz and Tristan Schwartz both of Stillwater, Oklahoma. Also surviving is one sister, Susan Slight and her significant other Mark Snavely of Fort Worth, Texas. Steve is preceded in death by his parents, his brother, John Nath Jr. and his nephew, Chris Howard, and his beloved dog named Mike as well as many aunts, uncles, and cousins.
