ARLINGTON-Steven Craig Russell, born on October 30, 1949, in Fort Worth, Texas, passed away on March 20, 2024, in Arlington, Texas, at the age of 74. He was a beloved husband, son, brother, and friend, and will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
Memorial Service: 3 p.m. Friday, April 12, 2024 in Dallas-Fort Worth National Cemetery, 2000 Mountain Creek Parkway, Dallas, Texas, 75211.
Steven was a kindhearted individual who valued his relationships with family and friends above all else. His compassionate nature was evident in both his personal and professional life. He was known for his loyalty, sense of humor, and dedication to service.
A proud veteran, Steven served in the U.S. Army from 1971 to 1979 as an Army SP5 and later in the Texas Air National Guard from 1979 to 1999, achieving the rank of M/SGT. His service during Desert Shield/Desert Storm held significant meaning to him.
In his career as an X-ray technician at the VA Hospital in Dallas and Fort Worth from 1979 to 2010, Steven was not only a skilled professional but also trained many aspiring X-ray technicians at Tarrant County Junior College. His impact was felt by students across the metroplex, earning him the reputation of a favorite instructor.
Outside of work, Steven found joy in various hobbies such as golfing, gardening, and collecting music, movies, and sports memorabilia. He cherished traveling with his wife, Kay, and creating memories together. A perfect day for Steven involved golfing in the morning, tending to his garden, playing with his dog Bandi, and enjoying a concert with Kay in the evening.
Steven was preceded in death by his father, Cecil Russell.
He is survived by his loving wife of 42 years, Martha Kay Russell; mother, Mary Russell; brother, Dan Russell; sisters, Jeanne Lassiter (Alan), Susan Ligon (Greg); Kay's sister, Donna Hester (Mike); as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that contributions be made in his honor to Hill County Paw Pals (www.scpawpals.org ), Eastern Hills Pet Hospital in Fort Worth, Texas, or a charity of your choice.
