Steven Lloyd Skaggs, 52, passed away on September 6, 2025. His life was marked by dedication-to his children, family, his work, and the great outdoors he so dearly loved.
Born on February 1, 1973, Steve grew up in Philomath, Oregon surrounded by his close-knit family. He took pride in being the #1 brother to his three best friends and brothers, Jason, Chris and Jesse. Steve was a phenomenal athlete and graduated from Philomath High School in 1992. After graduation, he left just two days later to join the United States Marine Corps, demonstrating early on his commitment to service and responsibility. Throughout his life, Steve held various jobs to support those he loved. He worked as a low voltage electrician, a Yoder Operator, and a construction worker-roles that reflected both his strong work ethic and his willingness to do whatever it took to care for his family. No matter the job title, Steve approached each day with determination and pride. He quoted his Pop Pop often by saying, "Son, life is 90% work and 10% fun."
Steve was a devoted father that treasured taking train rides with his children-simple adventures that created lasting memories. Being a father completed him. His children were his best friends and life. Steve also had a deep appreciation for nature and was an avid outdoorsman who found peace and joy in nature. Whether casting a line into the river or tracking game through the woods, he felt most at home under open skies. His love for fishing and hunting was more than a pastime-it was a way of life. He especially cherished time spent on the river and shared many of these moments with those closest to him. Steve had a lifelong loyalty to the Dallas Cowboys and followed them passionately through every season.
Steve is survived by his parents Carla Skaggs, Buck and Shelly Skaggs; his brothers Jason Skaggs (Jenny), Christopher Skaggs (JoAnne), and Jesse Skaggs (Megan); his son Steven Skaggs; daughters Emma Skaggs and Ashley Gee (grandchildren Grayson and Harper); as well as his Great Grandma Geneva Skaggs/Hazelton and many loving aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends who will miss him deeply. Known for being loving and hardworking. Steve was truly our #1 son. His presence, smile, love and grace brought strength and love to those around him-and his memory will continue to bring comfort to all who knew him.
