Steve Toben, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, and esteemed chemical engineer, passed away on August 17, 2024 at the age of 67. Steve was born in Washington, MO, on June 18, 1957, to Robert and Janice Toben (nee Ronsick). Steve was a man of many talents and deep passions, leaving behind a legacy of love, laughter, faith in God, and significant contributions to the field of chemical engineering.

Steve was a dedicated athlete throughout his high school years, excelling in a wide range of sports, including football, cross-country running, track and field, basketball, golf, and baseball. His passion for athletics was matched by his academic achievements, as he went on to attend the University of Missouri, where he earned a degree in chemical engineering in 1980. Steve's professional career spanned over 30 years as a chemical engineer with Texaco/Shell refineries.

A renowned specialist in H-Oil technology, Steve was highly respected in his profession. His expertise and dedication to advancing this crucial area of chemical engineering earned him admiration from colleagues and peers alike. Steve’s innovative spirit and problem-solving abilities made a lasting impact on the industry he loved.

Steve’s greatest joy, however, was his family. He was a devoted husband, a proud father of three children, and the cherished grandfather of ten grandchildren. His sense of humor was a hallmark of his personality, always quick with a joke or a witty remark that could brighten any room.

One of Steve’s favorite places to be was on the water, aboard his beloved boat. He found peace and contentment there, often spending hours navigating tranquil waters, soaking in the beauty of nature. Watching sunsets and moonrises from his boat was one of his greatest pleasures, a moment of serenity he treasured.

Steve was a die-hard fan of the St. Louis Cardinals, he never missed a chance to cheer on his beloved team, whether at the stadium or from his favorite chair at home. He loved local live music, and he could often be found enjoying the energy of the music at his favorite local establishments. Saturdays in the fall were reserved for Mizzou football, where his loyalty to the Tigers ran deep. Steve's enthusiasm for these joys in life was as unwavering as his love for his family and friends, and he leaves behind memories filled with the sounds of live music.

Family was at the center of Steve’s life. He loved spending time with his loved ones, creating memories that will be cherished for generations. Whether it was a family gathering, a day on the water, or simply watching a sunset together, Steve’s presence brought warmth and joy to those around him.

Steve is survived by his wife, Carol. He was preceded in death by his mother, Janice, and his father, Robert. He is also preceded in death by his first wife, and the mother of his children, Patricia, and brothers-in-law Bill and Mike. He is remembered by his sister Kim, and her husband Derrick; children: Nick Toben, Kathleen Rockefeller (nee Toben) and her husband, Willie, and Angie Senac (nee Toben) and her husband Alex; sisters-in-law Teresa (Hal), Imelda, Norma, Martha (Werner), and Cissy; ten grandchildren (Jack, Evan, Mia, Johnny, Margo, Patty, Annie, Charlie, Anya, and Jude), step-daughters: Jessica (Aaron) and Allison, nieces, nephews, cousins, and many more friends and family members.
