Steven R. Tonkinson ObituarySteven Tonkinson, of Chicago, IL, passed away suddenly on March 30, 2023 at the young age of 56.
Loving husband of Laura (nee Sammon) and proud father of Aidan and Aisling Tonkinson. Devoted son of Anne Marie Anderson and David Tonkinson, brother of Michael (Tiffaney) and Kevin (Jackie) all of Chicago. Son-in-law of Dorrie and Patrick Sammon of Katy, TX. Uncle of many nieces and nephews.
Steve was born on September 28, 1966 in Chicago. He attended Lane Tech High School and the University of Illinois at Chicago. He worked in finance throughout his career at PwC, Sipi Metals Corp., Battaglia Distributing Corp., and Inliten, LLC. He graduated with a degree in business and was one of the smartest in his class. On August 14, 1999, he married Laura, who he loved most dearly. On October 31, 2002 and December 29, 2003 respectively, he welcomed his two beautiful children, Aidan and Aisling who were the light of his life.
Steve was a devoted father, avid golfer and sports enthusiast. He and Laura loved to travel, try new restaurants, and volunteer and cheer for everything Aidan and Aisling participated in at St. Edward School, Notre Dame College Prep, and Loyola Academy. He also loved golfing with his son and parents, fantasy football, and reading. He played with the Horner Park Jazz Band and was an incredibly talented musician. He was also a problem-solver who devoted his time to the community he loved. Steve was involved in many church and school activities, helping out wherever he could. He will be deeply missed by his friends, family, and all who knew him.
The family will receive friends at Tohle Funeral Home, 4325 W. Lawrence Avenue, Chicago, from 4-8pm on Monday, April 10. The funeral Mass will be at St. Edward Church, 4350 W. Sunnyside Avenue, Chicago, April 11 at 11am. In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate contributions in Steve's memory to the Saint Edward Youth Sports Program online through April 18 at
