Steven Dwayne Wright

Steven Dwayne Wright, 53, of Hurricane Mills, Tennessee passed away Friday October 10, 2025, in McEwen. He was born on February 9, 1972, in Waverly, Tennessee to Virgil E. Wright and the late Linda Sue Betty Wright. Steven touched the lives of many, often in quiet ways that went unseen, but none more deeply than the life of his beloved wife of 20 years, Melinda Kaye Wright, with whom he had recently celebrated their anniversary. Steven was a husband, son, father, brother, grandfather, great-grandfather, uncle, and friend.
In addition to his wife and father, survivors include his children, Courtney (Keith) Poindexter of Hurricane Mills and Matthew Kilpatrick of Clarksville, Tennessee, his grandchildren, Haley Poindexter, Chesney Slayton, and Brady Poindexter, all of Hurricane Mills, a great granddaughter, Valerie Chapman of Hurricane Mills, sisters, Tammy (Tommy) Gibson of Watson, Missouri, Penny (Sandy) Roberson of Waverly, and Amy (Dennis) Tester of Waverly, as well as numerous uncles, aunts, nephews, nieces, cousins and in-laws who join the family in their loss.
In addition to his mother, he is also preceded in death by his grandparents Cecil and Jane Betty of McEwen, and George and Bessie Wright of Waverly.
A celebration of Steven's life will be held on November 1, 2025 at New Life Church in Buffalo/Hurricane Mills, Tennessee with Mark Beecham officiating. Visitation starts at 11 am with the service to start at 1 pm. The family has chosen cremation.
Steven's kindness and friendship touched the lives of many. To continue his legacy of compassion, the family requests that, instead of flowers, donations be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital in his memory.
