Sue Ellen "Susie" Fowler, a beacon of warmth, passed away on June 21, 2024, in the town of St. Augustine Florida after losing a difficult battle with cancer. Born to Beverly Duke (Larrowe) and Carl Coats on September 13, 1953. Susie's life was full of love, fun and more fun!
Susie's journey began in Muncie, IN, where she grew up with her late siblings, Rickey and Randy Coats. Her childhood was filled with the simple joys of Midwestern life, which laid the foundation for her nurturing spirit. After graduating from Southside High School in 1971, she pursued her passion for beauty, earning a professional cosmetology license in 1972. Susie Opened her first salon on the campus of Ball State in 1977, later moving to Reno, NV before eventually relocating to Saint Augustine, FL and opening another salon where she met some of her best friends, continuing along with many of them to her final salon home, Hotheads. Susie was proud to maintain her professional license until her passing.
Susie's life outside the salon was rich with hobbies. As a member of the St. Augustine Orchid Society, her garden was a vibrant oasis. Susie's reading skills were unmatched, and her blues melodies could soothe any soul. Sue's friends and family will forever cherish their memories of her and fondly remember her comforting words of wisdom.
Predeceased by her parents, her brothers, and two husbands; Edwin Rice and William Fowler, Susie's memory is honored by her devoted boyfriend Larry Horn; her son George Rice and his wife Marie and her grandchildren, Gabriella, Roland and Kiara. Along with several nieces and nephews and a strong community of friends.
Services to celebrate Susie's life will be held on June 29th, 2024, at 6:00 p.m. at Ancient City Brewing. 3420 Agricultural Center Dr #8, St. Augustine, FL 32092
Susie believed life should be a party and she wanted to be remembered with a one of a kind celebration. So come ready to celebrate and of course dress naturally!
