Norma P. (Harney) Turner, 96, of Anderson, passed away at her home on October 7, 2025. She was born on August 13,1929, in Anderson, Indiana, the daughter of Kenneth and Frances (Elliott) Harney.
Norma graduated from Anderson High School in 1947. She earned a Bachelor of Science in 1980, and a Master of Arts in Education in 1983 from Ball State University where she was a member of the Golden Key National Honor Society.
She was employed by Anderson Community Schools as a media specialist (librarian) at 10th Street School and several other elementary schools as well as Highland High School. Norma retired in 2002 after 35 years of service and continued to substitute in the library at East Side Middle School.
She was affiliated with a locally founded group of teachers called MENTA where she developed friendships with a wonderful circle of friends who meant so much to her. She was also part of a Bunco dice group where she shared many laughs and created lasting friendships. Norma loved to read, enjoyed time spent at the lake, but most importantly she loved to spend time with her family.
She is survived by her loving daughters, Carol Coburn and Janet (Jeff) Blackburn; grandsons, Joseph (Amanda)Blackburn and Brant (Katelyn) Coburn; and great-grandchildren, Graham Blackburn, Claire Blackburn, and Sophie Coburn.
Norma was preceded in death by her parents; siblings, Lewis Harney, Betty Bickel, and Louise Whitesel; and granddaughter, Johanna Blackburn.
Visitation will be held Monday, October 13, 2025, 11:00 am - 1:00 pm at Loose Funeral Homes & Crematory, 200 West 53rd St. Anderson, IN.
Services will follow visitation at 1:00 pm at the funeral home with Anthony May officiating.
Burial will take place in the Anderson Memorial Park.
Memorial contributions may be made to Madison County Humane Society or the Anderson Public Library.
