Suirita "Sue" Joyce Essary, age 67, of Gilmer TX passed away July 13th, 2024 at 8:31pm. Sue was born to Joyce Garrett and Charles Record on January 26th, 1957 in Dallas Tx. She married the love of her life, Jackie, on October 20th, 1973. They were married 44 years and raised 3 children before his passing on June 22, 2018.
Sue leaves as her legacy 3 children: daughter Tonya Mercer and husband Robert Mercer, daughter Melissa Benson and husband Bradley Benson, and son Michael Essary and wife Christy Essary. She also leaves to cherish 9 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren. Her family will remember her as a loving wife, mom, and memaw. Sue is preceded in death by her husband Jackie, and mother Joyce.
Sue was a devoted cafeteria worker for 15 years at Gilmer ISD. She especially loved working with the elementary kids. In addition to working the school cafeteria, In honor of her husbands passing, Sue and daughter Tonya, opened Jack Rabbit Grill restaurant in Ore City. It is there that she famously became everyone's favorite memaw. Sues reputation in the community was established while managing the restaurant, also leading to the creation of her extended family, the Jeep Club.
A celebration of life is scheduled for Saturday July 20th, 2024 at Croley Funeral Home in Gilmer Tx. The family will take visitors at 1:00, and the celebration of life ceremony will follow immediately at 2:00.
