Sumner L. Wayne "Roy" passed away Monday, April 10, 2023 at Norton Brownsboro Hospital. His wife Wilma, son Richard, his doctor and nurses by his side. He was born in Boston MA on June 22,1929, almost 94 years.
Roy spent his childhood in the Boston Brookline area. Attending a New Hampshire boys camp in the summer where he became a rifle instructor and learned water saftey. He enjoyed baseball, rode his bike to Fenway Park, spent many hours watching the Red Sox, frequently operating the turnstyles for attendees to gain free admission. In Senior high school he played semi-pro baseball at pitcher and first base.
After graduation he joined the US Army, was sent to Fort Knox for training and served his country in Korea. He then enrolled at Georgia Institute of Technology in Atlanta GA. There he met Wilma, his wife of 68 years.
After several years of working in industrial engineering, Roy accepted a position with Ford Motor Company at the Louisville Assembly Plant. He later transfered to the Kentucky Truck Plant when the foundation was being poured for the first building. Roy had a long and respectful career at KY Truck and was instrumental in bringing the Comercial Light Truck project to sucessful completion in the early 90s.
Roy is preceded in death by his parents and brother.
He is survived by his wife, Wilma White Wayne; sons Richard and Michael Wayne (Libby); grandson Andrew Wayne; niece Pamela Field and nephews Ronald and David Wayne and Layton Sheets. Roy was a faithful, devoted husband and father. He loved his family, work and church.
In lieu of flowers expressions of sympathy may be made to Pewee Valley Presbyterian Church or charity of your choice.
Graveside service will be Mon. April 17, 1pm at Floydsburg Cemetery, Crestwood Ky with a reception following at PV Pres Church.
