Sun I "Suni" Shirer

Sun I. Shirer "Suni", 74, of Painesville, Ohio, passed away peacefully at her home on Saturday, April 12, 2025, surrounded by the love of her family.
Born in Daegu, South Korea, on September 3, 1950, Suni made Lake County her home for over four decades. She was the beloved wife of Jeffery D. Shirer, devoted mother of Wendy S. Kunash (Chris Moore) and Jean L. Shirer (Scott Milner), and adored grandmother of Kya Kunash, Katrina Kunash, Daniel Rago and the late Jacob Rago.
Suni's journey is one of resilience, determination, and deep love for her family and community. She began working as a seamstress at American Dry Cleaning in Painesville and, through hard work and perseverance, became the proud owner. Under her leadership, American Dry Cleaning became a trusted and respected establishment serving much of Lake County-including the Lake County Sheriff's Office, local law enforcement, Laketran, and hundreds of loyal customers. Her commitment to quality and service left a lasting mark on the community she cared for deeply.
A strong and loving mother, Suni instilled in her daughters a powerful work ethic and a deep sense of responsibility. Summers and school breaks were spent working alongside their mother at the dry cleaner, learning firsthand the values of dedication and perseverance.
Suni's faith was a cornerstone of her life. She was a faithful member, serving as a deacon and recently appointed Elder at the Korean Church of Ashtabula, where she found strength, purpose, and a spiritual family.
Family and friends are invited to pay their respects on Friday, April 18, 2025, from 3:00 PM to 7:00 PM at McMahon-Coyne-Vitantonio Funeral Home, 6330 Center Street (RT. 615, N.E. of RT. 2), Mentor, OH. A funeral service honoring Suni's life will be held at 11:00 AM on Saturday, April 19, at the funeral home. A private graveside service will take place at a later date.
