Born on July 19, 1948, in Auburn, New York, Susan's life journey was one marked by devotion to her family, friends, and to those she served throughout her career.
A beloved wife to Ron Caruana, and a cherished mother to Danielle Caruana, Michael Cherchio, and Ronald Cherchio, Susan's family was the cornerstone of her life. Her role as a mother-in-law to James Higgins, Myra Cherchio, and Kelly Cherchio, and as an adoring grandmother to Cade, Jacob, Cory, Ashlee, and Allie, as well as a great-grandmother to Izabella, Kain, Barrett, and Haislee illustrated the depth of her love and the joy she derived from family connections. She is also survived by her sister Deborah MacDonald and brothers David Wild (Kathy) and Thomas Wild. She is preceded in death by her parents, Robert and Elma Wild, brothers Robert Wild, Ronald Rouse, and sister Kathy Corcoran (Martin).Educated at Auburn West and Central High Schools, Susan's nurturing spirit led her to become a homemaker, raising her children with a profound sense of tradition and warmth that infused every aspect of her home with a touch of magic, especially during the holidays. Her soft-spoken demeanor belied a dynamic presence, making her a sought-after listener, wise advice giver, and a source of comfort to all who knew her.
With a passion for children's well-being, Susan ran a preschool-age daycare, fostering a love of learning and growth in the youngest of hearts. Her dedication to nurturing extended well beyond the confines of her own family, touching the lives of countless others with her gentle guidance and patient teaching.
Susan's professional journey reflected her innate calling to care for others. As a Certified Nursing Assistant, she became the lead caregiver in an Alzheimer's unit for over a decade, offering solace and support to both patients and their families. Her compassion extended into her work as a private home health aide, where she provided attentive care to numerous patients.
As a Christian, Susan's faith was a beacon that guided her through life's trials and triumphs. Her interests were as varied as they were vibrant. An advocate for medical research, she kept abreast of advancements with an ever-curious mind. Her love for swimming, walking, cinema, and dancing to the rhythm of music led her to attend numerous concerts of national recording artists and theater productions, a testament to her zest for life and the arts.
Thrill-seekers found a kindred spirit in Susan, who not only loved exciting rides and racing, but also experienced the exhilaration of attending the Daytona 500. Her encounter with racing legends Richard and Kyle Petty remained an anecdote she shared with a sparkle in her eye.
Susan's artistic flair was evident in her talent for interior decorating, her ability to stage and present breathtaking dinners for social gatherings, and her proficiency in the culinary arts, all of which made her an unforgettable hostess and a true connoisseur of elegance.
