Memorial Service for Susan B. Ferguson will be 2:00 p.m. Saturday, October 18, 2025 at the Marshall Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Ron Pingleton officiating. The Ferguson family has entrusted Marshall Funeral Home of Alva with the arrangements.
Susan B. Ferguson, daughter of the late William (Bill) and Evelyn Hines Long, was born August 26, 1947, in Alva, Oklahoma, and passed away October 12, 2025, in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, at the age of 78 years, 1 month, and 16 days.
A longtime resident of Alva, Susan attended Alva Public Schools and graduated from Alva High School with the class of 1965. When she was younger, she ran AAU track and held the record in the standing broad jump. In her spare time while younger, she enjoyed volunteering as a candy striper at the Alva General Hospital.
She grew up attending the First Presbyterian Church. She also worked for her father painting propane tanks for his business. While in High School, she enjoyed being a Bugette and cheering on the Goldbugs. After High School, she eventually moved away from Alva where she resided in Longmont, Colorado and went to work for Budweiser.
Later she returned home for a class reunion where she met the love of her life, Jim Ferguson. They married in 1976 and in 1977 their daughter Jamie was born. Once back in Alva, after staying home for many years raising their daughter, she went to work for numerous businesses in Alva, with her last being McClures before she retired.
Susan was woven into the fabric of her community, known for her love of golf, her love of yard work, and her long-time love of fishing and newfound love of puzzles. She enjoyed her weekly get togethers with her special Wine Bugs and her longtime friend Lizabeth Richey. She was one to do whatever she could do to help others. Susans greatest joy could be found in the moments shared with her beloved granddaughters.
Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her treasured grandson, Cameron James Carey, and sister-in-law, Julie Ferguson.
Susan is survived by her husband of 49 years, James (Jim) Ferguson of Alva, Oklahoma, and leaves behind a legacy of love with her daughter, Jamie Ferguson Carey of Woodward, and granddaughters Madison Carey of Stillwater, and Hadley Carey of Woodward; her son, Shaun Brown, and his wife, Brenda, of Lewisville, Texas; her sister, Sarah Balenti and husband, Mike, of Enid Oklahoma; her brother, Sam Long and wife, Barbara, of Alva; brother-in-law, Stanley Ferguson and wife, Connie, of Hattiesburg, Mississippi.
She is also survived by her nieces, Dr. Halah Simon, and husband, Chad, of Alva; nephews Brandon Long and wife, Tina, of Alva; Chris Balenti and wife, Janine, of Sterling, Colorado; Troy Balenti and wife, Shannon, of Enid, Dr. James (David) Ferguson M.D. and wife, Monica, of Hattiesburg, Mississippi; along with numerous great nieces and nephews, extended family members and friends.
We let go of a remarkable wife, loving mother, amazing Memo, and a kind soul and friend. As we mourn her loss, we also celebrate the love, joy, and kindness that were the essence of Susan's being.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made through the funeral home to Oklahoma Medical Research Foundation. Her compassion, warmth, and kindness are the hallmarks of Susan's life, to be cherished and carried forward by those who had the privilege of knowing her.
