Susan Jane Blackman Fister, a light of unconditional love and faith, passed away peacefully on July 7, 2025, in
Paris, Kentucky. Born in Endicott, New York, on May 28, 1946, to Mahlon Robert Blackman and Jean Olga Stiles Blackman, Susan's life was a testament to her resilience, grace, and the power of a kind heart.
For 60 cherished years, Susan was the love of John Burke Fister's life, an enduring partnership marked by shared joys and unwavering support. Together, they were blessed with a large and loving family, including their four devoted daughters, Jennifer (D.R.) Frye, Angela (Robbie) Isaac, Charlotte Morton, and Sarah-Jane (Brian) Brown; two sons, Luke (Skye) Fister and Matthew (Suzy) Fister; and their cherished daughter-in-law, Crystal Fister. Susan embraced life as a grandmother to 25 grandchildren, Corrie Frye, Hillary Frye, Michael (Brittany) Frye, Robert Jonathon (Elisha) Fister, Jr., Racheal (Daniel) True, Caleb (Abagayle) Fister, Christopher Beverly, Kimber Beverly, Robert Isaac, Matthew Isaac, Justin Isaac, Cameron Isaac, James-Patrick (Hannah) Morton, Graceanne (Austin) Curran, SusanJean Morton, Tori (Thomas) Winterton, Andrew Fister, Leo Fister, Isabella Fister, John-Michael Brown, Lillian-Jane Brown, Drake-Liam Brown, Charlotte Fister, Ava Jane Fister and John Wyatt Elmer Fister and 31 great-grandchildren, who will carry her legacy of love and generosity into the future.
Susan was preceded in death by her parents; her beloved son, Robert Jonathon Fister, Sr.; her son-in-law, Sam Morton; two great-grandchildren, Truman Prescott True and Jobe Neil Morton; and her sisters, Sandy Relyea and Marcia Allen.
Susan was a pillar of the community, sharing her time and talents generously. She was a dedicated member of the Catholic Church of the Annunciation and enriched the lives of many through her service on the RCIA committee. Her work history showcased her commitment to education and growth, as she shared the joys of reading with countless children during her tenure as a librarian at St. Mary's Catholic School.
Those who knew Susan were touched by her selfless nature and faith-filled spirit. An accomplished seamstress, she lovingly crafted clothing and won awards for her exquisite work, including making several prom dresses and clothing for her children. Susan also made all her daughters weddings dresses, several other wedding dresses for friends, and many bridesmaids' dresses. Her passion wasn't confined to her sewing machine – Susan enjoyed the camaraderie of playing Bunco with friends, found joy in the competitive spirit of bowling, and delighted in the creativity of craft fairs.
Her friends and family will remember Susan as a woman who illustrated what it means to be loving and selfless. Her presence was a comforting constant, and she will be missed deeply by all who were fortunate enough to be enveloped in her kindness.
Her exquisite soul lives on in the lives she touched, the memories cherished by friends and family, and the bright future of her descendants. Susan Jane Blackman Fister's story is one of unwavering love and profound faith, leaving a beautiful imprint that will not be forgotten.
Susan's life will be celebrated in accordance with the faith she treasured, surrounded by those whom she held dear. Her legacy is one of kindness and devout service, and she will rest in eternal peace, having lived a genuinely remarkable life.
Rosary service will be conducted at 11:30 AM Thursday July 10, 2025, at the Catholic Church of the Annunciation, 1007 Main St.,
Paris, KY with the Funeral Mass to begin at 12:00 PM by Father Jeff Estacio. Burial will follow in the Mt. Olivet Cemetery,
Paris, KY. Visitation will be from 10:00 AM July 10, 2025, until 11:30 AM at the church.
Pallbearers will be Luke Fister, Matthew Fister, J.P. Morton, Andrew Fister, Leo Fister, Michael Frye, Christopher Beverly, Jonathon Fister, Jr., Caleb Fister, John-Michael Brown and Drake-Liam Brown.
