Date of Death: September 30, 2025
Date of Birth: August 15, 1947
Susan Lee Heath
August 15, 1947 – September 30, 2025
Susan Heath passed away peacefully in the late hours of September 30, 2025, after bravely facing a long illness. For three and a half years, she fought with remarkable strength, determination, and spirit-learning to walk and care for herself again after first falling ill in August 2022. She defied all odds given by doctors.
Susan was born Susan Lee Barnett to Elizabeth and Lee Barnett in Brunswick on August 15, 1947. She was the older sister of Kathy and was raised in Lisbon Falls by her mother and stepfather, Albert Roehrig. She graduated from Lisbon High School in 1965.
She married the love of her life, Kenneth Heath, on April 8, 1966. Together, they raised three children-Shannon, Jane, and Kyle. Susan was a "mean what you say, say what you mean, and follow through" kind of mom. She and Ken instilled in their children a strong work ethic and a sense of selflessness. Family meant everything to Susan, and she cherished watching it grow to include four grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. In 1972, Susan and Ken bought their first house in Topsham, which is still the family home today.
Known lovingly to her grandchildren and great-grandchildren as Nanny and Great-Nana, Susan truly treasured her role as a grandmother. She always made time for them-taking them to fairs and on little adventures, sharing her love of reading, and always having books ready to read together. She never missed a chance to spoil a child with sweets, gifts, and her signature feisty humor.
Susan was endlessly proud of her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. Everyone knew that if they called with any bit of news, she'd be thrilled to hear it.
She loved to bake and make candy, teaching every child in the family how to bake from an early age. She'd stand the littles up on kitchen chairs, tie aprons around them, and patiently show them how to measure, mix, and create something sweet. She also loved to crochet-every baby born into the family or to family friends received a handmade blanket created just for them.
Susan worked several jobs throughout her life, including babysitting 12 children in her home in the 1970's. Her longest position was at Amenity Manor Nursing Home in Topsham, where she dedicated 32 years of service.
She is survived by her husband of 59 years, Kenneth Heath; daughters Shannon Heath and Jane (and husband Stan Rowe); son Kyle Heath (and partner Valerie Lorensten); sister Kathy Gowen; brother Michael Reed; grandchildren Megan (and husband Michael Kirk), Amber Moore (and partner Matthew Wooten), Steven Utecht (and wife Abby), and Shawn Rowe; honorary granddaughter Andrea Imrie; and great-grandchildren Grace Kirk, Bentley Moore, Rosaleen Kirk, Riley Kirk, Remington Utecht, and Wesley Utecht, along with bonus great-grandchildren Nevaeh and Elijah Wooten and Iris Imrie. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews who loved her dearly.
Susan was predeceased by her mother, Elizabeth Glover; her bonus stepfather, John Glover, and her father, Albert Roehrig.
She will be remembered with love by all who knew her. Those who were lucky enough to have Susan in their lives will forever carry her laughter, warmth, and strength in their hearts-and we know that one day, she'll grace us again with her smile and cheering laugh. We all hope that she has finally found Bigfoot.
At Susan's request, there will be no formal funeral. Instead, she wished for the family to host a "huge feed" filled with laughter, storytelling, and love. The date for this gathering will be announced at a later time.
