Susan Joyce Hinz was born October 16, 1946, in Fairmont, MN, the daughter of Eugene "Ole" and Joyce (Miller) Hinz. She was baptized at Zion Lutheran Church in Fraser Township and later confirmed at St. Paul Lutheran in Fairmont, MN. Sue began her education attending parochial school at Zion Lutheran Church in Fraser Township and later St. Paul Lutheran School in Fairmont. She attended high school in Welcome, MN, and graduated with the class of 1964. Sue would go on to further her education first attending Concordia University in St. Paul and later attending college at Jackson Votech in Jackson, MN.
Sue worked at 3M in Fairmont for over 30 years and also served as Secretary/Treasurer for the OCAW/PACE union representing 3M employees for many years
Sue was extremely talented when it came to sewing and over the years, she sewed many projects, helped fixed items and created gifts for friends and family. She had an eye for decorating and volunteered her time creating beautiful settings for weddings, fundraising events, and community events. Following her retirement from 3M, Sue volunteered her time with community agencies and was proud of the work the 3M retirees did with providing school supplies to kindergarten students. Family and friends were very important to Sue and no matter where she traveled, she seemed to know someone and looked forward to those chance meetings and catching up. She had many friends from many different parts of her life that will remember her for her caring and loving personality. Faith was an important part of Sue's life, and she tried to live her life as a servant to others. She was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Fairmont serving her church in many roles and was active in Clara Circle.
Left to cherish her memory is her daughter, Alanna Hinz-Sweeney and her husband, Brian; three grandchildren, Bre Rauch and her husband Trent and their family; Logan Sweeney and Kayla Sweeney; two brothers, Jerry Hinz and Mert Hinz and his wife, Rena; as well as many nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.
Susan was preceded in death by her parents, Eugene "Ole" and Joyce Hinz; sister-in-law, Pat Hinz; and a nephew, Jason Hinz.
The family requests memorials be made in Susan's name to St. Paul Lutheran School in Fairmont and Martin Luther High School in Northrop, MN.
