Susan Hutchins Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by YANDA & SON FUNERAL HOME - YUKON on Oct. 21, 2025.

Publish in a newspaper

Susan Hutchins, age 74, beloved wife, mother, Gran, daughter, sister, and friend passed away peacefully with her husband of fifty-five years, Gary Hutchins by her side on October 17, 2025. Born on May 18, 1951 in Enid, Oklahoma to Coy and Evalene Hemby, she was a world-class traveler, living in such places as Moracco, England, Tripoli, and Germany. She graduated from Midwest City High School, where she first knew Gary, but love didn't bloom between them until they crossed paths again at the Student Union at Oklahoma State University.

Susan's passion for history guided her into a career in education. She served as an adjunct professor at Oklahoma State University – Oklahoma City, where she inspired students with her knowledge and enthusiasm. A gifted writer and scholar, she co-authored two college history textbooks before her love of literature led her to a second calling as a librarian.

Susan and Gary settled in Yukon where they had three amazing daughters, Tracie Singer, Melissa Kelsey, and Courtney Lester. Family was the center of Susan's world, and she cherished her role as "Gran" to six grandchildren: Emily and Chase Singer, Lauryn and Presley Lester, and Jaxon and Julie Kelsey. One of her greatest joys was meeting her great-grandson, Boston Singer.

Susan was preceded in death by her father, Coy Hemby. She is survived by her mother, Evalene Hemby; sisters, Patti Cranfill and Cheri Botvidson; her devoted husband, Gary; and their three daughters, Tracie and her husband, Sean Singer; Melissa and her husband, Jason Kelsey; and Courtney Lester. She also leaves behind six cherished grandchildren, along with several nieces and nephews.

Homecoming Celebration will be held at 2:00 PM, Saturday, October 25, 2025 at Midwest City Free Methodist Church, 6500 E. Reno Ave., Midwest City, OK 73110.

In lieu of flowers memorial gifts may be made to Oklahoma City Zoo or The National Cowboy & Western Heritage Museum.
